Recently purchased a 2022 Tradesman with Cummins and it apparently does not currently have the factory trailer TPMS. I found an aftermarket module that supposedly will provide that feature, but was wondering if anyone knows if the dealer can add that through the software. I assume it uses the same hardware as the truck TPMS system. Anyone information is greatly appreciated.

Before you spend too much on the factory kit, just want to pass on that it does not give Tire temps. Which for me is a deal breaker. So on my new trailer I didn’t install the factory sensors, I went with aftermarket with a separate screen. To me temp of the tire is a great indicator of something “odd” however YMMV.

Cheers

This should give you the info your looking for. I added it to my 2019 and works good, but does require some hardware and software adjustments.

I use both OEM and aftermarket on my 2022 depending on the trailer I'm towing.

Temp sounds good in theory, but it's defiantly not a deal breaker especially since the exhaust gives a false high reading on the passenger side tires. Just monitoring pressure is adequate for the tires, and the OEM system seems to work much better than the aftermarket models I've used.

I DIY installed the OEM TTPMS in my 2020.

After doing so, determined the aftermarket sensors I already had wouldn't work with it.

However, the biggest deal breaker for me, other than temps, was the lack of flexibility. Specifically, the lack of a "disconnect" mode. While I'm most often pulling both the 5th wheel and boat, I sometimes leave the boat behind. The OEM system also sorely needs a repeater for longer trailers and doubles.

I suppose I could have run both, but after consideration, I decided the expense of the in-wheel sensors I'd have to buy and have mounted wasn't worth it.

If it uses the same hardware as factory you would have to have the dealer program it or do it yourself with alpha obd or Jscan. but as others have said aftermarket ttpms doesn’t seem to work with the factory system so you might end up chasing your tail.

Post up a link to this aftermarket module that claims to hook into the factory system.

FWIW, even if it was all OEM parts, dealers cannot add sales code features if they don't exist in the records for that VIN. Consequently, AlfaOBD (or JScan) is required to add sales code features.
