Trailer TPMS lost configuration

It is a range issue. The trailer sensors can't reliably send a strong enough signal to the receiver in the bumper. I have given up and made up an extention cable to place the receiver just in front of the the trailer axle and it works great. I paid for the option and I think that it is absolutely stupid that Chrysler didn't bother testing the system before putting it out there on the market. I ended up spending almost a 100 bucks to get the system to work properly. To add salt to the wound, when I went to the dealer with the problem, they didn't even know the system existed. No wonder people have no faith in dealerships.
How did you extend it? Did you move the box from the bumper back to the trailer with some sort of quick disconnect on the tongue?

I made up a cable and placed the receiver box (that was originaly behind the back bumper) under the trailer just ahead of the axle. I installed a quick connect at the trailer connector. The cable has a twisted pair for data and a positive and negative power wires. @Jimmy07 provided a source for the OEM connectors and I used a water resistance quick connect (from Amazon) at the trailer 7 pin connector. PM me for the part source if you want to take this on. The stuff came from DigiKey for the OEM connectors and Amazon for the wire and quick connect.

I wouldn’t recommend the built in trailer TPMS. Mine has only gotten worse over time and rarely works now. I regret optioning it and should have kept my cheap standalone TPMS system from my old truck.

@RamCares This is a serious issue and needs addressing by RAM. This was an expensive option to add to my truck and is a safety feature when towing, I cannot rely on my truck to safely notify me of trailer tire issues despite paying for the feature. Safety features should not be repeatedly ignored when customers bring them to RAM’s attention. I sent you a message a couple weeks ago and haven’t heard back, please put me in touch with somebody at RAM that can investigate this issue. This cannot continue to be ignored, it has the potential to be a dangerous problem.
Hello,

We understand your frustration and do apologize. We have responded to you via private message and will continue the conversation there. Thank you.

@RamCares Was this issue ever fixed? My saved trailer TPMS settings are gone every time I restart the vehicle and I have to switch trailers to recover them. I reached out to RAM support via email in May 2022 and was told it would be "Thank you i will look in to this for you, I will reach out to you once I have an answer" but I never received a response. It is not practicable to bring the trailer I own to a dealership so this issue can't be diagnosed by them.

Soooooo, nearly three years after the OP, has there been any headway made on fixing this? the 2024 2500 Laramie I got in September keeps dropping it's TTPMS configuration. I will try some of the previously posted work-arounds, but seriously, WTF is being done by RAM to make this system just work?

I picked up a 2024 3500 limited longhorn that I had the dealer ensure had the trailer TPMS ability, bought the sensors from them as they told
Me that is all I needed. Getting the sensors installed on my fifth wheel next week. But under trailer settings I do not see the option to configure or Is this something that will become available after I connect to my trailer.

Or if anyone knows where the module should be on the truck I will check to ensure it has the module.

If its not listed on the window sticker then you don't have it.

If your truck had the trailer TPMS system it would have come with the sensors. The dealer lied to you.

There are a few ways to check to see if you truly have it. First is to check your build sheet for your particular VIN on the Mopar website and see that it says Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring. You can also see if it is listed on your window sticker. If it was installed by the dealer after the sale, it may not show up in either of these places and you will have to look for the two modules that comprise the truck side of the system. One module is located behind the headliner above the passenger side of the rear window. This is a pain to get to and I would skip it and look instead for the module mounted behind the rear license plate holder, between it and the spare tire.
The thing that makes me think it is NOT installed is the fact that the valve stem sensors did not come with the truck as they should if the factory had installed the system (usually found in a bag under the rear seat that might also include Aux switch, or upfitter, wiring and accersory stuff like that.)

Thanks for the information, no sensor behind the license plate, and not on the window sticker. I have a call into the dealer to figure it out. At least there is a fantastic amount of information here on what is needed to get it up and working!

I feel your pain. I had to replace my well speced 2019 2500 this September when it caught on fire during a fuel stop in Wyoming (long, long story). The truck I bought had the "Towing Technology Group" which I questioned the salesman about trying to confirm that package included TTPMS, which he inststed it did. "Of course it does, partner. It's got all the wiz-bang towing gadgets."
Well, no, it didn't which I did not realize until a week later when we had to hook up our trailer and start heading back to Florida. I ended up ordering the parts and having them forwarded to a RAM dealership in Missouri and installed it myself why attending an event for a few days there.

Was this issue resolved? I am experiencing the same issue with my 2023 Ram 2500.

I sent a private message, but I think there are lots of people who may still experience this problem and it would be very helpfull if we get some information on troubleshooting and solution on this thread.

Yeah, @RamCares is totally ignoring this issue. They have been told of the issue by many. For years. I have a 2022 3500 SRW.
I assume () they are ignoring it because you can make it work. But it should work without having to manually reinitialize the software. As a retired software engineer I know it is an initialization issue due to how I can get it to work. I sent @RamCares a pm and told them same in early 2022. Still waiting for a reply.

So now when towing, I hook up get ready to roll, go to vehicle, settings, trailer, then select trailer 2 (not configured) then use this trailer, exit that <, then select my configured trailer, use this trailer, then reset target tire pressure (it always resets to 50 psi). Exit < and tada, my TTPMS is back to functional. Geesh!

Fix this @RamCares or make the software available and let us fix it. I volunteer!

We're sorry to hear you feel this way. I assure you our team is working diligently. If you would like to discuss your concerns further, our private messages are open. We ask that you also include your VIN, and most recent dealers visit for further assistance.
