Are trailer gain settings pretty consistent across all types of trucks?

Like if I have it set to 3.5 on the Ram, would my son in his GMC set it to 3.5 as well? Or would the gain setting be different and have to readjust?

I would expect differences truck to truck of different make.

RAM also has Heavy Electric (aggressive ramp rate) and Light Electric.

I had mine set to 3.5 Heavy and changed to 6.0 Light and it's worlds better.

Setting will also be trailer specific and should be adjusted for each trailer and the current load.

Lastly, the RAM Diesel exhaust brake adds a lot of braking so you may be able to dial down the trailer brakes as well and save some dishes.

Plus 1000% to this. Just got back from another camping trip and LOVE how the engine brake in tow/haul works. Only need to tap the brakes at a stop light, amazing.

No way I’ll ever do a gasser again for towing.

Cheers

I'm going to say they'd be different. Yes, 'gain' is 'gain', but we must factor in the differences in how the T.V. interprets those numbers. Also, does the trailer have standard, self adjusting or hydraulic brakes? Are the brakes drum or disk?

Our 5r has self adjusting brakes. Weighs 12,000 loaded and I have the controller set at 'Heavy Electric' with a gain of 4.5

You don't show if you have a gasser or diesel. Also if your son's GMC is a gasser or diesel. If you have the Cummins and he has gas, there is absolutely 0 comparison between the two. Even if he has a diesel, there's still a big difference between the two because of our Exhaust Brake and Tow Haul combination.

Sorry, yes mines a 6.7 and his is a 5.3 gas...

Yeah Raggdoll, I think your son is going to have to play with his controller. He could start at 3.5 and go from there.

These 6.7 Rams have amazing slowing down power with the EB and TH. But remember, your gain should be set for stopping under normal conditions. Such as thru a neighborhood, stop sign to stop sign, pulling in and out of your driveway, etc. Not coming off an Interstate at 70mph.
