Sadly the 2022 2500 I aim to buy does not come with the OEM brake controller. Had the similar situation with a Tundra I owned, slapped in a Tekonsha with Tundra-specific pigtail and off I went. What are my best aftermarket controller options with the Ram...or would one recommend seeing if the OEM can be installed? Thanks in advance.

oem is the best- no skinned knees. Price wasn't too bad with dealer installed so make it part of your buy.

OEM I had it done on a 1500 as part of my deal.

Buy the parts and and AlfaOBD setup and DIY.

Oem can be installed its the best way! If dealer wont do it you can get the stuff you beed from infotainment and install it yourself!

Infotainment kit is $400 and is a one trick pony. I think they still include the stupid behind the cluster bypass module instead of a cable so you have to tear out your cluster to install .

Definitely go with the factory it can be installed by the dealer and I would see if they can't add it into the deal.

I added the OEM to my 1500 myself. It was relatively easy to do.

I had the dealer add it a.p.o.s. .. wasn't a big deal other than they ordered the 4th gen module twice. I probably had one of the 1st batches of 4.75 gens on the road, so I cut them a bit of slack.

How is that even possible that a 2500 comes w/o a brake controller? Does it even have a hitch receiver?
If it has a hitch receiver, why not a brake controller?
A 3/4 ton truck is a tow vehicle........maybe I do not need to understand everything.

Tradesman do not come standard with a brake controller. I don't think it comes with the trailer tow mirrors either. Has to be optioned up.

I confirm. My Tradesman had the mirrors and the trailer brake controller added as options on the sticker. Mirrors were $195 and the brake controller was $295

mine had the mirrors and hitch. no controller. I'll have to look but don't think the mirrors were listed as an option.

Here is a picture of the control knob.
I installed it in the place where the factory control switch goes.
The brake controller "box" is mounted in the exact location where the factory "box" would be mounted. I used the adapter wire from redarc to connect to truck harness.

How do you manually press it to just have trailer brakes

FYI, aftermarket controllers do not tie into the truck braking system like the OEM controller does.

Ram OEM brake controller is tightly coupled to the braking system pressure and speed of deployment, vehicle speed, ABS, etc.

The best aftermarket can do is proportional braking using isolated on-board sensors.

Not saying they don't work well, but they will never work as well as the factory system.
