So my headlights are kinda crumby. Any suggest a simple reasonable brightness upgrade without getting too expensive and working with my truck

Which lights do you have? I really like the lights on my 2019 Power Wagon but I can't imagine them being affordable. The lights on my brother's 2015 Ram are something like $600 a piece and I believe they are the standard lights. He was able to get cheaper knock-offs though

For just bulbs, in another vehicle I went with blue tipped bulbs and loved the clean white light they emitted.

I was looking at these for the low beams. I think the highs are fine. I talked to seller and he said they should work without resistors. If they don’t he claims to send me resistors for free.

That’s cool. Seems like we can use just about any high beam it’s just the low beams because of the DRL.

Really. Those are low beam lights. From what it looked like to me all of the highs wouldn’t work. And most of the lows would.

I haven’t read anyone having any problems w highs. Read a good post (tried to find it but can’t at the moment) and had pics of some of the error codes guys were getting. There were two guys that their truck wouldn’t even start after replacing the lows. Either way it’s just insane that you could possibly have those kind of problem just by replacing headlight bulbs ‍♂️

O. I find my brights are perfectly fine. It’s just my lows I would like a little brighter.

I agree 100%. If my lows were as good as the highs I wouldn’t even be looking at replacing them

I put in Kaslight LED bulbs for the low beams. They are DOT approved. Trick to getting a good pattern and clean cutoff is to make sure the actual LEDs are on each side of the flat holder. So the flat holder is perfectly vertical. The Kaslight brand lets your rotate the housing so you can line it up right. Don't bother buying any that don't allow you to rotate them. Making sure you get a clean pattern keeps you from blinding others too.

It’s nice that those avoid blinding other drivers, but you’re definitely getting a far worse light pattern for yourself.

Halogen reflector housings are computer designed for a filament in a halogen bulb that is long (front to back in the direction of vehicle travel) and emits light on all sides relatively evenly. Those LEDs are not emitting anything up or down, so you’re not getting light in a lot of the directions you should be. The light to the sides also isn’t the same shape as that from a halogen bulb, so you’re probably ending up with hot and cold spots that way too. The only way to safely change the type of light your vehicle comes with is to replace the housing and the bulb together with a set that are designed for each other. No drop in replacement (LED, HID, etc) will ever give you proper light patterns, and 99% of the time will actually reduce your visibility, even (and especially) if it looks brighter from in the cab.
