TPMS (TIS) sensors for trailer (SOLVED - see 1st post) aka TTPMS - Trailer TPMS

So I’m waiting to take delivery, but wanted to ask about these sensors. I have a triple axle toy hauler, so I know I’ll need two more sensors to go along with the four pack.

Do the sensors go on IN the tires? I feel silly asking this, but I haven’t even looked at the kit yet, that and the previous owner had his own kit where the sensors were on the stem caps.

Yes they replace your factory valve stems

Thanks!

Well, looks like I’m going to have to start shopping tire shops. Almost wonder if I can ask the shop on base to do it while I’m staying there…

I have no idea if they are a national chain or just in California, but America’s Tire (also branded under the Discount Tire name) will do it pretty cheap. They charged me $10 per wheel. I took the wheels off the RV myself though.

That's what I'm thinking. I believe we have Discount Tire here along with other chains, but there is a auto shop and auto hobby shop on base. I could use the hobby shop and pay maybe $5 for the time on the machines, but I'd rather spend a bit more for piece of mind that it someone else that is supposed to know what they're doing has done it correctly...

Caution: Not all rims work with the RAM TTPMS valve sensors/stems.
I had new G-rated tires installed on my 5th wheel today, and brought along my RAM supplied sensors for the TTPMS system. No matter what we tried, the threaded length of the stems wasn't long enough to work on my HD aluminum trailer rims. The rims were too thick, so when the stems were installed, there was not enough threads on the outside to get a bite on with the stem nuts. They are apparently designed for steel rims, and may work on some thinner aluminum wheels.
I may check with Schrader to see if they make a stem with a longer threaded section, but I have already spent too much on the stem swap and would rather put any additional expense towards a real TTPMS that monitors both PSI and Temp.

Ok,

So the module in the first post f this thread lists the bumber module as:

68375990AC

That only gives me the years 2021 and for 1500s and 2500s.

A guy with a 2022 gave me his VIN and the bumper module part came back as:

68526635AB

I am thinking they changed something on these modules.
Did the 2022 specific bumper module (68526635AB) fix your TTPMS sensor pairing issues?

Ok,

Just a quick update on this subject for anyone with 2022 that you added TTPMS to. I finally got he trailer sensors to pair with the truck.

I could not get the sensors to pair at all with the bumper sensor part # 68375990AC

This sensor was listed on page 1 of this thread but it did not seem to work for my 2022. I then ordered part 68526635AB. With this bumper sensor I could get the horn chirps during the pairing process but they would still not register or be recognized by the Uconnect 5. So I waited for the next update that was suppose to correct the TTPMS issues on the Uconnect 5 along with other fixes they had.

I finally got the latest update to the Uconnect 5. I went out to pair the truck today and had a couple issues but it did pair successfully on the third attempt.

One the first attempt when clicking start it would not so the orange arrow flashing next to the first tire - so I did a soft reset of the radio - It then would now show the orange arrows flashing next tot he first tire indicating it was ready to pair. When I came to the screen to set the target pressure - it had a weird value of 408. It should be defaulting to 50 PSI - I just changed it to 80 PSI and tried to paring the sensors - no luck.

Truck was in the RUN mode only on this attempt.

I returned the truck to the OFF position and then backed he truck up about 1 foot to connect the trailer plug cable. Turned the truck off - connected the trailer plug, set truck to the RUN position again. This time when setting the target tire pressure it was defaulted to 50 PSI - set it to 80 PSI and began the pairing process. The first tire chirped within 2 minutes - the rest of the tires paired as well within 2- 5 PSI being let out of them.

Went back to the truck and hit Finish - it was paired successfully. So I believe with the 2202 trucks if you add the TTPMS after the fact you will need the new part number in concert with the latest Uconnect software.

I updated the first post to include this part number.

Has anyone bought/installed the tire pressure sensors on a towed trailer that can be viewed on the driver information center after being configured in the UConnect? Specifically for the 3500. I am looking for the part number for the sensor.

I've tried a couple of dealers and yesterday chatted and then emailed Mopar support. Chat referred me to email. Email sent me a totally useless reply. "After doing some research, I found that I only have part information for those that come equipped with a particular vehicle or that are compatible with a vehicle. I would suggest that you speak with an authorized Ram dealer for the part number for the Tire Pressure Sensors that would be used by the trailer towed by your truck. "

This being my first non GM truck after 40 years I am surprised that FCA support doesn't have part numbers. Seems like a black hole.

Mod Edit: OP hasn't been seen in a while so I'm posting a summary update here regarding the TTPMS (Trailer TPMS):

Through diligence and hard work on the part of several members, the parts and process to add TTPMS has been discovered. There are several good summaries and instructions posted throughout the thread that I will attempt to cover below.

The parts required, discovered by several contributors and posted throughout the thread, was initially summarized by @thestuarts HERE.

PARTS REQUIRED TO ADD TTPMS to 2019+ RAM HD TRUCKS:
As of 6-21-20 You may find some of these parts, particularly the TIM module and jumper cable, currently out of stock everywhere, partly thanks to this thread.

You will need to install the hard parts. @Phil T excellent instructions pdf HERE.

The hardest part of this is pulling down the headliner (easier on 2020) to remove a dummy plug jumper and install the TIM and jumper cable.

TOOLS REQUIRED:
  • AlfaOBD for Windows (for 2019) or Android (2020 trucks) ($50)
  • Security bypass cable like the one from KAOdTECH. ($50)
  • Bluetooth OBD-II adapter like the OBDLink MX/MX+ ($80/$120)

You will need to enable the sales code option for TTPMS using the tools and components listed to "recode" the Body Control Module (BCM). There's a giant AlphOBD thread here if needing a primer. I used an ELM327 compatible OBD2 reader ($22 BAFX) with success.

Turning on the TTPMS option in the EVIC discovered HERE thanks to @g00fy

VehConfig 8: Trailer TPM

For the 2019 trucks, you may need to use the Windows version and select the MY2020 under advanced - also thanks to @g00fy
(ETA: AlphaOBD has been updated to include MY2019 TTPMS settings)

An excellent writeup using AlphaOBD Windows for a 2019 written by @Phil T HERE

"The TTPM sends the information to the TIM via the Controller Area Network-Chassis (CAN-C) to be transmitted to the IPC."

ETA: P/T Chassis Net: TTPM must be enabled.

It may take several key cycles or time, or even overnight for the Tire Pressure options to show up in the U-Connect Trailer Settings once TTPMS is enabled.

@1FastHemi excellent post on adding the wheel sensors HERE:

I was unable to pair non-MOPAR sensors (external TireMinder) to the system. I don't believe anyone has been successful pairing non-MOPAR sensors.

Lastly, much of this could not have been possible without guidance and input and PARTS from @Jimmy07
well the above parts work on a 2021 RAM 3500 Diesel Laramie?

The part listed should be fine with a 2021. There seems to have been a change with the bumper module and the Uconnect 5 in the 2022s.

MD quoted me about $91 for those single sensors...is that about right? I'm thinking of ordering them from the local dealer just so I know I will be able to have them eventually (MD said they could get them "shortly")

Can the trailer TPM system be added to 2022 Ram 5500 not factory ordered. Truck did not come with 4 trailer sensors or receiver module. Can't find or see the connector at the rear of the truck. Has flatbed installed makes it difficult to locate. Looked at the upfitters information for location of the connector but it didn't talk about trucks without the factory option. Has back-up camera and rear park assist connectors.

So I have had the TTPMS installed on my 2022 now for a few weeks after the Update for the UConnect 5 seems to have resolved my pairing issue.

I noticed that the truck doesn't balways hold the settings. On some starts is displays " trailer tire pressure monitoring system not configured" and then on the next start up I have the screen showing the trailer tire pressure displayed as it should.

It also doesn't hold the target pressure of 80, seems to always default to 50.

On a trip to Colorado I changed the target pressure from 50 to 80 then they truck gave me a message saying the sensors didn't match the trailer I was using in the radio settings.

Not really sure how to fix these issues.

Hello everyone. Just an FYI, these parts are on some serious backorder. I'm still waiting on the parts ordered on March 3rd from an online dealer (couldn't find any local in San Antonio). Really hoping to get this working on my 2020 Ram 2500 for when I pull my RV. I'll keep you posted!
