TPMS (TIS) sensors for trailer (SOLVED - see 1st post) aka TTPMS - Trailer TPMS

The ttpms is now available to order on new builds. It's not on the build site but they have the code. Its like $445 msrp to add the extra software . But you still have to buy on your own the valve stem trailer tire sensors pkg of 4 for about $170 more then you have to get installed.

How do you know it's extra software? Wasn't it supposed to be a module in the bumper that read the trailer sensors? Perhaps it's a combination of both module, software, and extra sensors.

I'm hoping it will just be a module plugged into a harness in the bumper and all that needs to be done is obtain trailer sensors along with pairing them.

Someone may figure out how to do it, but it doesn't look like Ram/Mopar are going to offer it as a kit or a service.

Rod Romain said it will probably not be possible to retrofit the TTPMS to an existing truck.

... If it is not built with it adding it later I don't believe would be an option with the tools the dealer has available.

Ram previously announced Mopar won't provide a retrofit kit.

“TTPM could be added but it would consist of vehicle configuration changes, software flashes, wiring, and module replacement,” said a Ram spokesman. “It can be done, but it is not a Mopar kit that’s plug and play.”

That's all correct, all of the above. There putting it on order forms now an start installing as of March 1st. Just like it reads your tire sensors on truck it will read the sensors on trailer. You can program up to 4 different trailers with I think up to 12 tires each. Unfortunately the tire sensors are not just the screw on cap type like on your after market systems , they are just like on your truck, on the valve stems, so you'll have to have them installed at a tire place somewhere.

it's just like the extra wiring pkg you have to pay for to get the aux camera function for your trailer. The ttpms is pretty much the same way. On your build they add those extra features so you have the capability to add your tire sensors kit or aux camera kit. Ram has said this is not something that can be done after market. As of now anyway.

I think you can add the Aux Camera wiring if you didn't order it from the factory? I saw a part number for it and had a coiled harness in the bag.

I was also told by dealer who talked to factory rep that there was no after market add on for aux camera system. He said it had to be installed during build or you would not be able to go back later to fit. Theve got yah though, they charge you 450 to install wire harness from infotainment to rear bumper with a plug in then you have to spend another 550 after the fact for you to instal a camera with wire going across trailer to plug into truck bumper.

Now we just need one to show up so someone can get us a part number and we can try adding it!

I would never buy the Mopar camera. It's an analog signal so any camera can be adapted to connect through the 12-pin.

There are also aftermarket add-on video inputs available so it should be no surprise your dealer is full of it.

I agree, that would be no surprise, but thats all I've got to go on for now. Do you have any links to these after market camera systems that will work. I think that it sucks that the wireless models wont work but thats were theve got you

You can buy the Ford camera kit here: https://www.fordpartsgiant.com/parts/ford-kit-tpms-sensor_hc3z-19g490-k.html

This site has the nice Sony UCCD sensor cams but don't yet show a plug and play wiring harness setup for Ram (or Ford 12-pin for that matter): https://camera-source.com/2017-super-duty-w-360-view-commercial-trailer-cam.html
This site has a cool black box for Vehicle In Motion camera use and told me they're working on a kit for the Uconnect but they have crap cameras. : https://navtv.com/products/NTV-KIT910/cod-f53.html

My main requirement for a camera is 150* diagonal viewing angle. This nets a 90* vertical so I can see the RV bumper and the horizon/over my boat. I'm hoping that the second link will offer or build a harness for the RAM, or perhaps the VIM guys can use a better camera in their kits. Optionally, whatever camera is used, A wired camera will always be superior to any of the affordable wireless solutions. Furrion doesn't even come close to my needs. I've looked at commercial wireless and decided to wait for the new truck wired options now offered but it's becoming a lot of work to find something of quality that's going to be plug and play.

The Tazer guys may be able to crack the VIM too and have some other nice features. That said, I'm not far enough along in my research regarding the other programmers like AlphaOBD and Appcar.

It's a shame GM has completely eclipsed Ram with their camera system.

I appreciate the reply an leg work for other options. I'm pretty ole school an I can't stand Ford so the thought for me to shop on a Ford site for products for my ram are totally against my religion. I pray for those who go down that blue oval rd. Lol hahaha!!!!!! GM does have a nice camera system, just a bit too much of a good thing for me. Thanks for your reply s

No worries. I had all the links and had posted much of this (and more) up in another forum recently.

It's kind of sad that I had a decent wired rear observation camera (I think it was an Audiovox) on my old 2004 RV running into a 7" in dash flip up Jensen head unit in my 04 and the current factory option is (IMHO) this antiquated and not much better. That camera had like a 100* vertical view angle. The surround cameras are cool mind you, but I want them all to work in motion.

I agree that the most important feature I'm looking for is in motion use. From my understanding with the uconnect aux camera system is that it only stays on for 10 seconds In motion then switches back to regular view. I definitely don't like that. I want my view to stay on until I change it or you put tranny in R.

I know we have gotten off the ttpm topic but I wonder if there is a way around the aux camera only staying on for 10 seconds.

I was waiting for the TTPMS and the trailer camera pre wiring. Then I found out how how restricted the camera was and the sensors not being simple caps, I decided to NOT order the features. There are some good aftermarket solutions that RAM isn't their yet. I specifically wanted the ability to glace me while towing.

I like having mine on when I'm driving also. I just wanted to add all the technology I could during build for resale later. I also don't like the valve stem sensors, very inconvenient then you have to get them taken off again before you sell your trailer.

Well i did find out last night if you put a decent camera on your trailer of choice that you can just unplug your tailgate camera a they sell that particular flat plug from dealer. Now i don't have my truck yet so i don't know how easy it is to access the tailgate cam button on u connect or how long it would stay on. Imo the inconvenience would be unhooking that harness when ever loading an unloading

Regarding the backup camera for a trailer, anyone else see this? Sounds like this particular dealership is advertising the aux camera kit and if you didn't have the wiring prep pkg, they have that too.

I have not seen the video, but thats the same cam pkg that you can get through mopar for around $500. The prep pkg is also available through mopar but most of us just have it added to the build . From what I have read so far is that, that camera is not that good of quality ( for the price tag).

Yeah, I have the prep pkg in my build and was wondering if that camera was crap or not. Seems to me that we could buy a better camera and just buy the cabling if that's possible. Then splice a better camera into the cable in the back of the trailer. Perhaps easier said then done.
