Towing right off the lot?

You wont hurt anything. By the time you need fuel you will have given the ring and pinion a chance to cool and you are good to finish your trip. The by the time you get home forget about the break in and enjoy the truck.

The far bigger fear is that you do not put the TJ in the right gear to flat tow - I think my 96 XJ was transmission is PARK and the transfer case in Neutral for flat tow...

TJ at some point got a true neutral in the T-case whereas an XJ did not.

XJ np231 (or np242) when in neutral the front and rear outputs are locked together like in 4x4; no-go for flat towing. They updated the np231 at some point for the TJ to have a true neutral. The year that happened escapes me at this time

I've seen hot shot drivers show up with trailer, trade truck in, hook up trailer to new truck and be on their way. If they had to wait 500 miles every time they bought a new one, they'd go broke.

Ya once I go to a certain point of the build on the XJ I got a trailer because I knew if I was broke it was not flat towable hahaha.

Take the bus. Heck I’ve even heard of dealers paying for an airplane ticket for someone coming to get a truck.

I'm really considering dragging my trailer with me behind the Jeep when I go to pick up the truck, then once the deal is signed, drive around the corner and load the Jeep onto the trailer and tow the Jeep home. This way wife won't have to drive home (even though it's only 4 hrs). Still not sure if I'll do it or not, 4hrs really isn't long of a drive and the biggest thing stopping me is that the Jeep doesn't have electrical hookups in the back and I don't wanna get nabbed by Johnny Law for not having working trailer lights, or get rear-ended by someone not paying attention and then have to pay out the ass since it'll be easily provable that the trailer wasn't hooked up.
