Too much oil and poor dealer help

That sucks- maybe a different dealer. What about going directly to a Cummins shop? Not sure if that’s still a thing? My buddy got an attorney with his 2014, had a lot of miles kinda like yours and it got bought back pretty quick. His was simply lots of CELs and regen issues

Cummins as far as I know won't touch it. I am sure they have a deal with Ram. I know you can't buy parts directly from them. I am working a few different directions but the cheapest will be the path I am on.

I’ve always bought parts direct from Cummins service centers, not always but it was never an issue before. Maybe it changed but I got parts from them as of last year. Many people I know have taken their older trucks directly to Cummins certified shops under warranty. This is early 2000s and older. Again maybe changed

Cummins has never worked on these trucks under warranty. Dodge/Ram has always purchased the engines without any Cummins warranty.

You can buy parts from Cummins, which I’ve done many times, but they won’t turn a wrench for warranty and generally even after warranty is up.

I feel like I’m getting entertainment out of your misery @Dinky503 hahaha I know that’s wrong but I’m honestly intrigued to see what Ram does. It’s kind of like setting a precedent for all the other truck with the same or similar issue
I hear ya. I pop over to this thread now just to keep up as the story unfolds. At times it's teeth gritting, nail biting, and/or hilarious, but mostly it's a head shaker watching this fellow get the ultimate run-around. When the engine finally craters he can load all the shrapnel up in crates and dump them on the service dept's floor with a note from his attorney.

UPDATE!

Dealer finally wants to do a return flow test on the fuel system and possibly replace the high pressure pump.

I stopped in at the dealer to talk to the manager, He was not aware of the motor sounds and had no idea. well he is now aware of the issues, hopefully he starts actually paying attention... did tell him it could be a waste of time going forward with that repair.

The Cummins Sales & Service near me will not even entertain an FCA-bound 6.7L engine CPL number. It wasn’t always this way, but it seems to have gotten worse around 2013+.

My wife keeps saying “call the dealer” but I have no case - I’ve been keeping the passive regenerations to a minimum by driving up and down the interstate at 80+ MPH like a fool every time the DPF gauge begins to register anything. No wonder Ram drivers are considered the worst on the road. I’m going to just have to suck it up and drive as I ordinarily would so I can build up a record of too-frequent regens…of course at the cost of diluting my oil or worse.

I presume you mean keeping active regens to a minimum?

Took mine to the shop for the fuel system eval yesterday and got mixed results. The injectors seem to be functioning properly, but the fuel pump is at the top of its operating threshold. They opened a "STAR" case so now I'll pull up a chair next to you and wait patiently to hear what they say. In other news, on my way home my truck went into a regen within 5 miles of leaving the dealership and 67 miles after the last regen that occurred during the morning trip to the dealership. It threw a CEL that I'm sure is the P2459 code. Oh, and they pulled off about 3 qts of oil because it was a couple over when I got there. I had the oil swapped out, again, last week and only made one short, in-town trip and then the 120 mile mountain road trip to the shop towing my Jeep.

Did you get a sample of the oil? Pretty much the same as my truck. I am guessing my dealer is looking for a way to pin it on Me, or something I asked them to look at originally is really messed up and trying to figure out how to pin it on me lmao.

I have a couple of samples that I'm going to send off. I do feel fortunate that my dealership is trying every way they can to help me. It's a small dealership in a small town and the main mechanic is also the service manager. He's a good tech that has a great reputation around town. I'm welcome in the shop and he keeps me in the loop with everything that's going on. They still have to deal with corporate and the supply chain, but they are definitely not the weak link.

That's good hopefully they catch yours before your motor ends up like mine.

It will interesting to see your oil analysis compared to mine. My dealer didn't even care about it lol.

From what i have seen it seems 2022s will be problematic. People are just not getting miles put on them and more and more are popping up with issues.
Obviously it’s an injector or pump issue. Of course the dealer will run you though a huge waste of time to figure out something we all could have diagnosed ourselves. I wonder if anyone else has had the issue and what exactly corrected it

I found a few on Facebook, some injectors and some pumps. All of them were north of 20k miles
