in your post 15 you went beyond being that helpful saintly guy.The OP literally asked if anybody had any tonneau regrets. So, he was looking for unfavorable opinions. I shared mine.

That he did. Someone else got offended for him.The OP literally asked if anybody had any tonneau regrets. So, he was looking for unfavorable opinions. I shared mine.
If I remember correctly, the folding cover from Mopar parts dept is a softcover and is very overpriced. I have the Bakflip MX4 and am very happy with it.I didn't mean to stir the hornets nest here. Sorry if I did. I'm getting a hard cover. I'm just trying to decide which one to get and if anyone had either success or regrets over the type they purchased.
I'm leaning toward the hard folding version that will also flip up against the back window. I'm getting the digital camera rear view mirror, so If I ever need to carry anything without the cover (rare) I should be ok.
But then I saw those interior rolling covers and thought they were cool. But you just lose some permanent bed space... Not much, but some none the less.
I know they are not guaranteed waterproof. But I would like to get the one that has the best security and water resistance. I tend to get analysis paralysis when it comes to research and buying things like this where there are too many choices. My Wife sometimes has the simple solution. She said, "Not sure why you're overthinking this, just get the Mopar one from the parts dept and call it done".
She's pretty smart.

Ron, I had the Retrax cover on my 2013 1500. It was superb and I’m having one installed on my 2500. It’s a great product. Very secure and never had a problem with water coming in. Yes, it took up some bed space, but there was also about 6 inches underneath of it that was usable. For me, the space it took up never was an issue. I’d say the benefits far outweighed any drawbacks. No question that following your wife’s advice is normally a very good idea, but your careful consideration of what will work best for you is a prudent course. I would suggest your decision be driven by your needs. How often will you need to use the entire bed space, for example? What will you usually have in the bed you want to keep secure and dry, and how much access will you need? With the Retrax, you can open the tailgate while the cover stays in place and locked. You can also close it partially to hold things in place. I did that numerous times with a long ladder and lumber, with the tailgate closed.I didn't mean to stir the hornets nest here. Sorry if I did. I'm getting a hard cover. I'm just trying to decide which one to get and if anyone had either success or regrets over the type they purchased.

At the dealer I went to they had 4 different samples. The one looked and operated like the BakFlip. He didn't know the price but thought it was round $1,000.If I remember correctly, the folding cover from Mopar parts dept is a softcover and is very overpriced. It's amazing how these "manufacturer" web sites all look alike. It's almost as if they are all made by the same place and marketed with different names.
RE: mythbusters testingI have talked myself in and out of a tonneau cover so many times. I like how they look but I just measured the height of my ARB50 I don't think they will work for me. I can't remember what the outcome of the myth busters was in regards to mpg..probably negligible at best.
Do you plan to have anything in the front part of the bed (i.e., Aux Tank, Tool box) that would create a problem for a hard top roll canister?I want a hard tonneau that has some of the best security and water resistant features. I have been viewing some of the hard folding and the integrated rolling covers.
I'm leaning toward the rolling covers. Does anyone regret getting that type of rolling cover where the canister takes up space in the truck bed?
Thanks.
Ron
No, nothing like that I can think of. I would imagine most daily driving would be empty. Camping time would be our "stuff" to be secure and dry (we do not tow a 5th wheel nor see ourselves doing so in the future). Just the occasional 5% of the time where I might need to carry something big and bulky where the cover will need to be open or removed.Do you plan to have anything in the front part of the bed (i.e., Aux Tank, Tool box) that would create a problem for a hard top roll canister?

Haha you mean “plausible” ! I loved that show. First real world TV about nerding out on things; and it was okay.I have talked myself in and out of a tonneau cover so many times. I have a Retrax Pro XR and I love it...It is also what the Sheriffs department here uses to protect their gear and weapons. It will hold 600 pounds on it, has a fob for remote opening, and you can add rails or bars on the track system for a rack or roof top tent. The quality is outstanding, and I have had it since 2019. I have slept on it and under it and never had any issues. I will definitely want another some day. The cost was pretty steep, but I think it was really worth the investment. The bed stays dry and the thing is very tough. I do not regret the area that the "canister" takes up as I like to put some things under there for Bug Out situations. In 2019 that was the best model, and I am not sure if there is anything new as of 2022....Good Luck!I want a hard tonneau that has some of the best security and water resistant features. If you think its steep in the US try pricing one in Canada, Im pretty sure it would be cheaper to put a kid through college here than get one of those, but they are a great product, the only thing for me is how big the receiver box for retracting it is in the back. The cost was pretty steep,
Do you have to fold the backflip all the way up to the cap when you have the 5th wheel attached or can you leave it partially down so it doesn't block the back window?maybe In your opinion but not in mine... plenty of people need one including myself. It depends what you do with the truck, I tow a fifth wheel once in a while so its good for concealing valuables when not towing and keeping things dry. My Bakflip can fold up or come right off in no time at all. Im not a "rockcrawler" or use my truck for work, I just tow a 5th wheel and need the dry storage space.
I leave mine partially down.Do you have to fold the backflip all the way up to the cap when you have the 5th wheel attached or can you leave it partially down so it doesn't block the back window?
I have a 8 foot bed and there is plenty room for the fifth wheel when the back flip is folded flat in the stack but if you mean that I have to fold it up against and blocking the window the answere is no. There is plenty of space between the hitch and plenty of swing room for the trailer with about 3 inches to spare but in average manoeuvring does not come close to it.Do you have to fold the backflip all the way up to the cap when you have the 5th wheel attached or can you leave it partially down so it doesn't block the back window?
