Need assistance.
Recently upgraded from a 1500 warlock to a 3500 laramie (6' 4" bed) for 5th wheel towing purposes. The trailer has a turning point hitch so pivot is at the trailer mount of the pin box - 22" behind rear axle.
Looking for a tonneau cover that can remain installed while towing, allow the bed camera to see the bed while hooking up, be secure and relatively weatherproof.
Is this a pipe dream?
It seems I may require a retractable cover but, am finding it challenging to find anything that checks even some of these boxes.
A roll up cover is not really desirable for many reasons.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had a Bak X4s and really liked it. Hard roll up but no Velcro.

Beyond that, a 4 panel folder would give the least hitch obstruction. Extang Endure ALX is maybe a little nicer than the Bakflip MX4.

Peragon is a neat design but you can’t have tall things under it in the front.

Pace Edwards is the gold standard of retractable.

Truxedo X15 is the top tier of velcro roll-ups, if you can deal with velcro.

Seems like a gator or a bakflip 3/4 panel folder would be a good solution. They fold up against the back window which you won’t be able to see out of when towing anyway.

Gator SX3 trifold on my 8' box.
Folds flat with no window obstruction.
I bought for trip and general protection. Works great for the $. One day I'll upgrade to metal or a canopy.

Here's an April 18th, 2025 photo of the Lear roll-up tonneau cover on our 2024 Ram 3500 4x4 long bed parked in Wyoming. No matter how much I brushed the snow off of it, it still remained frozen with ice since mid-November. Sometimes I could open it a few feet before it would jam up on ice in the box. Six months of having to crawl under it to retrieve any stuff within the bed.

There is a reason I went through the hassle of plumbing in a natural gas heater in my garage.

Wyoming winters don’t play games.

I looked at all the different types of covers. Ruled out the retractable because they take up space inside the bed, can be fiddly to retract and add significant weight. Ruled out the folding covers because they block the rear view that I want when I'm lining up on the camper and backing up to it. After a certain point the camera takes over but before that I like to see out the window. Ended up with a Realtruck BAK X4s hard roll up cover. Rolled up, it sits lower than the back seat so I can't even see it from inside the truck. I can operate it with one hand and it is fairly water tight. It does not interfere with my Reese Goose Box equipped 5th wheel at all. The negatives are that it is pretty expensive and there is no rolling it up part way and using it. You have to have it fully closed or fully open - no in between. There are folding covers that allow that.

With recent heavy rains and parked on flat garage slab.
I Started to get heavy ponding in my tonneau, so I added 1" water pipe insulation(like pool noodles), cut to fit and zip tied in place on top of the struts, under the cover. It raised the cover enough to stay taught and now drains.
It's never leaked and good value for the money.
Just sayin.
