Can anyone give me an honest opinion as to how long it takes in general to install one of these things? Not according to a book because everyone knows they're overblown.
I'm being quoted crazy hours and prices for labor for something I could probably do myself in less time, I just don't feel like doing it.
Don't care to hear it's a waste of money etc. Wasn't looking for a drag truck.
Thanks in advance
Hey there, yeah I just installed this kid on My Friends 2500 Dodge ram, I did it at a house he’s working on so I brought some tools with me, I did not bring a socket set, I brought a 4 foot ladder and a tall stepstool since this stupid truck is so high off the ground, I brought my little impact screwdriver drill gun I had some other sockets and attachments for that, it took about three hours of fiddle farting around I would say maybe more, getting the old one out takes a little effort I could do this much faster now but I know how it’s supposed to go in, One of the things that none of the videos I found on YouTube nor I don’t think the instructions include that the replacement PVC hose they give you needs to be cut down to match the old one or you have to do a dry fit and get an estimate on how long, I did not try cutting that down and got it all in there and then I was cursing because of now I had to take it out and shorten it
They could do quite a few more things with their online directions to make this better, they also do not have a video only for the Duramax install.
You can gain a little access through the wheel well to the turbo connection to help you make sure it’s fully seated that was the only thing I use that ability to do, there’s a big cut out on the airbox as you’re shoving it in that cut out area on the flange where the filter goes into the airbox is on the inside of the truck side And that is a clearance cut out for the air conditioning line, I’m not sure they tell you that, getting the sensor connectors back on after you shove that whole giant mess down in there was difficult for The far connector
Taking the door actuator apart takes a little patience and skill so you don’t damage your break anything in case you want to save the old parts and popping the door off of the actuator shaft is something I don’t think they tell you at all how to do that maybe they do
I would say it’s an OK install for anyone who’s willing to get your hands good and dirty and get your arms way down in there, I have some video I’ve shot and I did a live stream for a while on my YouTube, I should get it all up there soon or you can try to look for the live stream which is already up
Have fun
I would recommend a couple tools you might need one is a cotter Pin removal tool, a little right angle bent pointy thing to help break the seal on the old PVC tube if you want to keep that piece of tubing intact, you will have to also cut the little stupid factory retaining chunk of rubber on the clamp to get it to move out of the way on that same PVC hose, but then it’s just a lot of fiddle farting and the main giant piece of plastic ductwork is a bit of a pain to manhandle because there’s no handles on it so there’s no easy way to grab it and twisted and shove it to get it into the hose rubber giant hose connector they give you to the turbo, that’s why looking through the opening in the wheel well and it would be best that you turn your wheels to the right before you start this so you can get into that area easier
