Time to install Banks Monster Ram

Can anyone give me an honest opinion as to how long it takes in general to install one of these things? Not according to a book because everyone knows they're overblown.
I'm being quoted crazy hours and prices for labor for something I could probably do myself in less time, I just don't feel like doing it.
Don't care to hear it's a waste of money etc. Wasn't looking for a drag truck.

Shop, prob what H3L said. as a semi capable guy that can wrench in his garage, and if beer's involved. 5-6 hours. the instructions are good. you can skip a few of them. like the back fuel line.

but why do you want to install the ram.

Solely for the insurance against that damn nut and or bolt grenading my engine. IDK if it's been rectified for 2023. I found out the hard way ($5k) that a problem that was rectified in the Jeep GC actually was not. Cummins would be far more expensive.

if you don't have the banks set up yet, there is a better cheaper alternative. i believe it was BDiesel that has it, @Brutal_HO can confirm i think.

First one I came across that took care of the issue. I'm new to the diesel world but have done some research. I'm not interested in getting into an anti Gale Banks thing. I know it was pricey. I like BD products. I have their exhaust manifolds on my 5.7 1500. Just came across the banks first.

I already bought the Banks for my 2500. My 1500 has BD exhaust manifolds

I think 3-4 hrs is a bit aggressive. Its probably closer to 6+ for the experinced home mechanic. I've replaced numerous turbos and injectors on older generation Rams and this install wasn't as complicated but there's just a lot more stuff to remove and put back which added to the duration.

I'd consider myself your average hobbyist mechanic, not a diesel guy, took me about 4 hours to do it start to finish.

Fair enough on your experience. I probably should have said I installed Banks boost tubes while I was at it so that might have stretched things a little. Say what you will about Banks I like his stuff but I'm also not naive when it comes to the form vs function debate on these things. Removing the heater bolt out of the equation was enough for me to make the investment in time and money. Peace out..

It took me a total of 3 hours when I did mine 1 hour after work to take everthing apart, and 2 hours the next day to install it. Granted I only had 200 miles on the truck so not much soot to worry about, nuts and bolts were a breeze taking off, and the old gasket material cleaned right up.

Id return it and get the BD fix its 1/4 the cost and you keep the OEM grid heater which beats that little useless heater the banks comes with. The banks heater wont work in the real cold, idk what the temps get to where you are but here they don't work past -25°C. I like banks products but this “fix” is not great for cold weather guys unless you can always plug it in

Oh for sure I wasn't saying you were wrong, just sharing my experience. 4-6 hours is a well within reason estimate for most people.

Yea here we see-45° during the winters so it is important but you should be good
