Thuren Suspension Kits

Hey all,

Have a 2021 Power Wagon and the first two big modifications are done (35” tires and Borla exhaust), looking to do the suspension now. Not looking to spend $3k+ so I think I’ve narrowed it down to one of the Thuren systems. The Fox shocks w/ reservoirs seem to be back ordered by 4 months or so (and am reading it’s longer than that) so looks like it’ll come down to their kit with the coils, track bar and either the Bilstein 5100 or Fox IFP.

My off reading is pretty moderate, looking to make the ride a little more comfortable on road (my wife gets car sick half the time we’re on a long drive lol). Anyone have experience with either of these and/or a preference? Is there a different direction anyone would suggest besides Tauren?

Thx!

Here is some reading for you.

I've done some research on the subject. haven't bought anything yet though.

That’s a lot, appreciate you posting it!

Maybe a stupid thought but trying to sort out if there’s a “sweet spot” for this. For example maybe a $2K system on the suspension feels night and day different than stock but from a $2k to a $4k system there’s an “improvement” but much less than from stock up. Of course not apples to apples as I’m sure some systems are more geared to off road and some more to on road manners.

Was originally thinking the Thuren front shocks/coils/trackbar and rear shocks would be the ticket but your post has me thinking it might be worth putting a little more into it.

Again, I know it’s very subjective.

I have been trying to figure out the right way to go on my new truck as well and from what I have gathered the fox IFPs for predominantly on road driving are a really solid improvement over stock (assuming you do track and sway bar as well) Thuren says there is a huge improvement once you go to King 2.5s but I take that with a grain of salt as its their job to sell me. I am planning to go 2.5s for the improved control while towing as well but I dont think you would be disappointed with Fox IFPs.

Makes sense, appreciate the feedback. I’ve generally read the same and think I’m going to go with the below (would do the fox 2.0’s w/ reservoirs for $250 more but they’re very backordered) for about $2k all in from Thuren. I think no question King’s or equivalent are a relatively big bump up but the price goes way up as well and I think it would be more than I need. The Carli systems seem very good but they get way up there in price as well

Fox 2.0 IFP’s front and back
Thuren springs front and back
Front track bar
Rear sway bar

Heres is my 2 cents, I had a Thuren set up on my 2007 Powerwagon and a Carli set up on my 2012 Ram with a Cummins, both were great, but the Thuren springs rode nicer, just a touch softer and better ride. Don't get me wrong the Carli was a lot nice than stock but Thuren was just better.

This is interesting and good feedback because we dont often hear from people that have run both Thuren and Carli. I cant figure out why people go with Carli over Thuren at this point, it seems like Thuren puts out a great product and for the kit I am planning to order is like $800 less.

If its shock availability I guess that would make sense since its like 8 months to get Kings from Thuren but outside of that I cant figure it out.

Order in! For what you get I do think Thuren’s a pretty good deal (whole system is less than my 35’s were lol). Will report back once it’s all installed. I’m curious if it’s going to genuinely make a big difference in the ride quality or if it’ll be noticeable but not much different. We have an hour and a half ride to visit family about every other weekend, if the ride improves enough that my wife doesn’t get car sick then it’s worth it!

Would have done the fox w/ reservoirs for a few bucks more but didn’t feel like waiting 3-4+ months.

I did Thuren front 1" coils and sway bar with Fox IFP's all around and it rides so much better than stock. Have no experience with Carli but I can say it was worth every penny to do it. Did the install myself with some help it and it was not all that difficult. Made the wife extremely happy.

Did you skip on the rear coils? Was debating whether to do the back or not, payload is already low on the power wagon. I read somewhere someone did front and not back and it felt unbalanced, front end was smooth over bumps but the truck would bounce when the back hit.

Also not sure what the impact of changing the rear coils on the power wagon would be. I know for a normal 2500 it would reduce the payload/towing a lot but the power wagon already has much softer coils so would there really be an impact?

Thuren told me the PW springs are softer than the 2500s, but stiffer than theirs. So it would probably ride smoother, but you would loose carrying capacity.

Yes I skipped the rear coils. Discussed my goals with Thuren and they stated a lot of people do front only. I can't speak for the PW but in my case it doesn't feel unbalanced, probably because I run the rear tire pressure at 50 and the Fox shocks help control the rear nicely. Don't get me wrong, at times the rear can be felt bit it's acceptable to me. If doing the front springs reduced payload then it negligible imo. My limited has a 1,934lb payload capacity and i'm using about 800 I estimate.

they don't make 1" coils. only 1/2" or 1.5"

According to their site they do?
