Thuren Alignment Specs - Uneven Tire Wear

Hey all,

I installed Thuren’s coils (1/2” front) and Fox 2.0’s front and rear along with their front track bar and rear sway bars at the same time that I put new 35”s on my ‘21 Power Wagon a couple thousand miles back. I had the alignment done to Thuren’s specs. With new tires on the truck it’s been pretty easy to see that the wear on the front tires is uneven (it’s wearing noticeably quicker on the outside of the tires).

Curious if most stuck w/ factory specs on alignment or used Thuren’s specs or if anyone has an opinion either way. May switch back to factory specs soon.

Thx

Check your tire pressure. Wear on just the outside edge usually means too low of air pressure. Wear in the center is too high.
I have 35's on my '21 PW and set the alignment to Thuren specs for tow and a little under for castor. I run 45/37 hot for tire pressure and have even wear after almost 20K miles.
Alignment was off from the factory and noticed with just a few hundred miles on the truck.

Appreciate the responses. It’s at 65 rear and 60 front (haven’t taken the time to lower the psi yet) so that shouldn’t be the issue. It’s also just the outside edge of the two front tires, not the inside edge. I got the specs/report after the alignment was done so I know/am pretty sure that was done correctly.

Probably a dumb question but I wonder if the coils weren’t installed properly? I attached a pic of the top for the front driver and passenger, they seem to be seated correctly.

Plan on taking it to a shop that specializes in off road cars soon to have them take a look at it.

Any pictures of the wear? Even at 0 toe large/soft trucks like this are going to get some outside edge wear compared to the inners when road crown is taken into account. Mine is aligned to 0 toe and the outer edges of the front tires have (just barely) more wear than the inner edges. Basically the outer tread block outer edges aren't as "square" as the inners but the tread depth is the same - basically from correcting right or left for the various crowns and ruts in the roads.

If it is excessive, as others stated, lower your air pressures. An E rated 35" tire on a PW gets the best wear/ride/traction/contact pattern around 40 rear and 45 front.

Appreciate the feedback

Prob me being paranoid more than anything. The outside edges are definitely starting to wear/round a little and the inside looks brand new. I’ve been meaning to drop the psi anyway, going to knock that out in the next couple days to see if it helps

That's not bad.
Keep an eye on it and if it gets worse, go to a different alignment shop. I drive mine hard. At almost 20K miles on the tires, the look about like that. I'll get a pic tomorrow of them.
Excessive castor or toe not close to 0 can cause that. I have my castor set at 3.5 vice 4.5 which Thuren calls for.

Your tire wear looks completely normal to me. If it drives down the road well then I’d send it

Ok, here are my tires.
I rotate them every 5K miles when I do my oil changes. Running 45/37 PSI.
Just did a rotation.
Rear tires have less than 10K miles due to accident. Fronts have 20K miles.

Appreciate you sending the pics over, I tried to get one of my whole tread. It’s probably just in my head but I did go back and look at the alignment sheet and (I‘m an idiot for not checking it over at the time) but it looks like they didn’t get it entirely within the Thuren specs I gave them.

Will probably try a new alignment shop and air them down a little.

Probably a bit paranoid b/c I wasn’t entirely comfortable with the original install of the Thuren coils/springs. Learning as I go with the truck and I did the Borla exhaust, bed lights, center console etc myself but the coils/springs was too big a job. Had it done at a local shop that had good reviews and works on bigger trucks mainly but had to have them redo the install. After the first try the front driver side coil was close enough to a bolt to make contact when compressed. I’m pretty sure everything is good at this point but not being 100% is making me overthink it a bit. Going to find a good local shop that specializes in off road vehicles to look the whole install over.

Here you go. Check out page seven of my build thread. Has my alignment sheet and tire wear before the alignment.

Awesome, I appreciate it, will read through later.

Appreciate all the help, this forum has been fantastic. Have no experience w/ any of this but was able to stumble my way through replacing the center console, wiring the bed lights, installing a Borla exhaust, AlfaOBD etc with help from everyone here. Have always been a big car/truck guy but this is one of the few that I still look back at once or twice after parking lol
