Thoughts on getting first oil and filter change?

i would not do an analysis on my first oil change . Too much stuff in the oil, silicone and other items used in construction of the motor . Just cause you to worry over nothing . I changed mine at 3000 Its not that expensive and you surely will not hurt your motor.

I used regular oil in my 2016 and would always do annual changes or less, never over the 24000 km and averaged about 20000km intervals. But, I've had more than one dealer and a couple of mechanics I know that recommend about 8000 to 10000 km intervals, not the 24000 from the manual, especially if working the engine hard. IOW, they probably agree more with the shop in the link above...

So, I'm conflicted on what to do with my new 2020 HO... I will definitely go to synthetics but trying to sort out the best intervals and I tow heavy about 25-30% of the time.

Thanks,
Brad

I owned big rigs hauling 80,0000 l just changed oil according to manufactures time . My Rams l use the Manual intervals . The manufacturer is always on the conservative side with fluids . The last thing they want is your engine to go south over oil changes . The oil produced today with the additive packages is superior to oil produced only decade ago . Just wasting time and money . You can always pull some out at 7000 and have it analyzed just to know .

This really isn't complicated, follow the recommendations in the owners manual, or pick a number your comfortable with and do it at that. The new trucks already come/use synthetic oils, so pick whichever brand oil you like and meets the Mopar specs. When I had my 14 EcoDiesel the manual called for service at 10.000 miles. After the initial service up until I traded for my 2500 6.7, I had 5 oil analysis's using Rotella T6 5W40 from Blackstone Labs. All results stated the oil health was very good and I could extend my oils changes further out if I wanted, but I won't go past the recommended service miles. So for me I'll follow the manuals 15,000 recommendations, or whatever the EVIC service notice pops up from my driving and or towing.

"Maintenance Interval for fuel filter replacement remains at 15,000 miles (24,000 km) and oil change interval stays at 15,000 miles (24,000 km) and is duty cycle based. This engine uses an oil change monitoring system which will display a message on the vehicle information center that alerts the driver to change the oil.

I had some done on my EcoDiesel when I had it, always came back good, and they said I could extend past the manuals 10,000 service. I'll do a few on the Cummins also.

I did analysis on my new Gen 3 EcoDiesel at 4,200 miles and the TBN was still OK but there were a lot of metals in the oil, which is expected. Definitely a good idea to change the oil more frequently when engine is new. Also, the new manual says if you care about your warranty you cannot pass 10k on an oil cycle. My oil life monitor seems to hit 0% around 8,000 miles so that's the interval I'll stick with.

I got 4 free oil and filter changes that expire in two years with the purchase of the truck. Took it in last week with only 6k on the odo; only took them 20 mins. Nothing damaged or messed up. Dealer mentioned so many people are missing out because they are following the manual.
