Or I may go to a different brand. I'm really unhappy with my current vehicle, so I'm thinking about trading if I can make the numbers work. My truck is paid for and since I'm nearing retirement I don't want a payment, so it's going to have to be a cash deal.
I'm considering going with a 3500 for the increased payload in case I decide to buy a camper. If I do go that route, it will be a SRW. Is there a big difference in ride from a 2500 to a 3500?
I haven't ridden in a newer 2500, so I can't comment based on personal experience, however I did do a lot of research between 2500 vs 3500 before buying my 3500. Price-wise, they are negligible. What I read was that the 2500 while a softer ride, has a tendency to "wag" the rear of the truck side-to-side as the suspension articulates up-and-down, due to the geometry of the rear panhard bar. It has to travel in an arc, so that makes sense. Some people notice it more, and some conditions are more noticeable than others. You also have a pretty limited payload capacity.

My numbers are based on Mega Cab Limited SRW w/ Cummins non-HO. The lower trim levels will have higher max payload / towing capacity.
The 3500 will understandably have a bit rougher ride than the 2500, especially when the dealer lets the truck leave with the tires at 85-90 PSI

, but my plan was to upgrade the suspension anyways.
Plan is to run one of the Carli systems, most likely the Backcountry kit, as I don't plan on doing any off-road type driving which would necessitate a Pintop or Dominator kit.
In addition to that, I would change out the rear leaf springs to their full progressive springs ("OK, so why bother getting a 3500?" is what you're thinking)...and that would get me a nice ride without the sway of a rear coil spring setup.
If I determine I really need more carrying / towing capacity than the Carli springs can offer, I will add in their air bags to assist with that...but I'll only have that extra help when I need it, not every day.
The new 3500, air assist Rams tip the scales with a maximum payload exceeding 6,000lbs. in most configurations. We went back to the drawing board with Deaver Spring and designed a progressive leaf spring pack that lifts the rear 1" (14-18 or 2" 19+) while drastically increasing unloaded ride...

"- Reduces payload to "light" 3/4-ton capacity"
That's where the air bags come in:
The Ram 3500 Platform was designed to haul, nothing surprising, right? The factory leaf springs are a NIGHTMARE when it comes to ride quality. We have several Suspension Systems adding various levels of ride quality to the platform, none more than those tuned around the Full Replacement Leaf...

All depends what you want...what you want to spend...and if you want to upgrade/modify an already expensive truck. Hope that helps some, based on the way my decision-making went.
