Thinking about selling or trading the '19 and ordering a '21 2500 or 3500.

Or I may go to a different brand. I'm really unhappy with my current vehicle, so I'm thinking about trading if I can make the numbers work. My truck is paid for and since I'm nearing retirement I don't want a payment, so it's going to have to be a cash deal.
I'm considering going with a 3500 for the increased payload in case I decide to buy a camper. If I do go that route, it will be a SRW. Is there a big difference in ride from a 2500 to a 3500?
Do the people that own the big screen think it's worth it? It seems like most things are split screen except maybe the Nav, and I usually use Waze for that. It looks cool, but I'm not sure it's that useful and I miss the physical buttons. I'll probably drop the sunroof as well.
Has anyone traded their '19 and come out well on the deal? I'd love to stay under 5 figures, but I realize that's probably not happening. Thanks

Used truck prices are insane right now so you *should* get top dollar for your trade.

If you're going to order one, no telling how long that will take and what trade values will look like then.

I'd definitely lose the sunroof, IMHO they're just leaks waiting to happen and reduce headroom for tall drivers. They also take away from payload.

There is a pretty big difference in ride quality between coil spring 2500 and leaf spring 3500 in stock form.

I just made the same move and 3500 is not that bad if the road is good. I would not hesitate but it’s not a vehicle to drive around town.
my advice is to drive one and see for yourself.

What is it that you dislike about your current truck?

Going from a 2500 to 3500 I gained both payload and towing capacity. I also went from a crew cab t the Mega which I really like. I drove a Laramie but I was not really in to all the bells and whistles like the 360 camera and lane departure warning etc...I did like the 12" screen but I can add that aftermarket for about 1K if I really want to.

My 2017 was not paid off when I traded it in, I did have a good amount of equity so that helped. I also found my 2019 BigHorn used with 4K miles which helped also. If your truck is paid for then you should be able to get a good trade for it - probably have to still have some cash out of pocket on a 2021.

I'm looking to do this now, but a 2020 to a 2021.
what do you dislike about your 2019?

I noticed I'm being offered top dollar on trade, but can't get as good of a price on the new one. Most dealers that I've checked with are invoice price. I have yet to find a 10k or more off of MSRP.

Sorry, should have stated why I’m unhappy with my current truck. Most of the reason is quality and reliability. I’ve had my cab mounts changed twice and still have a rattle, a/c is not cold, rear main seal leak and cp4 concerns.

I love the way my 3500 rides...in fact I think it is better than the 2017 2500 I had before.
I would agree, my '21 (with air suspension) rides better the by '17 2500. It's still a truck and rides like a truck but I don't mind at all.

I just sold my 2020 and have 2021 on order, mainly due to the cp4. Sold the 2020 outright for $8000 more than what dealer offered for trade..dealers will always low ball you.

What kinds of numbers were you being offered if I may ask?

I have been thinking the same to trade my 2500 for a 3500 i just like having a dually since i sold my 01 i need another dually to pull the heavy weight around

@99ls1tj I am in the process of doing what your thinking..... as @Brutal_HO mentioned, the used vehicles pricing is insane and in the two months since starting looking and now, the value of my '19 2500 limited has actually increased , and by several thousand. My dealer, who I have purchased several trucks from, actually stated on my work sheet any increases in trade value would be honored at time of delivery. I have worked the numbers several different ways and I found it more advantageous to trade vs outright sale due to tax credit using trade on new vehicle.
For me it is a no brainer.... More safety features as I once had in my '19 1500 (my '19 1500 is a story in itself), great return on trading out the '19 2500, don't need to have my current truck dash dismantled to correct the AC and crossing my fingers they worked out the body mount issues by now.

I doubt it, my 2014 had 2 sets of body mounts installed before a new design came out with a tsb that fixed it. My 2020 is back to making the same clunk from the factory WTF??? So if they lost the fix in the 2020 trucks I doubt they found it for the 2021's.

Pretty much exactly my thought process as well. If I can even find a dealer to do my A/C, I won't trust them. Fingers would be crossed on the body mount issue as well.

Thanks for all the input.

Anybody want to take a WAG based on personal experience on what I might expect for trade on my truck? Original sticker was 73,470 and I paid around 59+ tax and fees. It only has about 7k miles. Black, night edition, 12" screen, safety, adaptive cruise, tow tech, etc.
KBB is saying 58-63.

First dealer I talked to is offering about 7k off on an order for a '21. I'm not too excited about that. The deals definitely are what they were when I bought my current truck.

Thanks

I haven't ridden in a newer 2500, so I can't comment based on personal experience, however I did do a lot of research between 2500 vs 3500 before buying my 3500. Price-wise, they are negligible. What I read was that the 2500 while a softer ride, has a tendency to "wag" the rear of the truck side-to-side as the suspension articulates up-and-down, due to the geometry of the rear panhard bar. It has to travel in an arc, so that makes sense. Some people notice it more, and some conditions are more noticeable than others. You also have a pretty limited payload capacity.

You can play with payload capacity here:

My numbers are based on Mega Cab Limited SRW w/ Cummins non-HO. The lower trim levels will have higher max payload / towing capacity.
The 3500 will understandably have a bit rougher ride than the 2500, especially when the dealer lets the truck leave with the tires at 85-90 PSI , but my plan was to upgrade the suspension anyways.

Plan is to run one of the Carli systems, most likely the Backcountry kit, as I don't plan on doing any off-road type driving which would necessitate a Pintop or Dominator kit.
In addition to that, I would change out the rear leaf springs to their full progressive springs ("OK, so why bother getting a 3500?" is what you're thinking)...and that would get me a nice ride without the sway of a rear coil spring setup.
If I determine I really need more carrying / towing capacity than the Carli springs can offer, I will add in their air bags to assist with that...but I'll only have that extra help when I need it, not every day.

"- Reduces payload to "light" 3/4-ton capacity"

That's where the air bags come in:

All depends what you want...what you want to spend...and if you want to upgrade/modify an already expensive truck. Hope that helps some, based on the way my decision-making went. :D

I wanted the big screen...I'm a sucker for technology. I know that there's a risk of it dying later, and it's "one more thing that could go wrong"...but there's a million things in life that could go wrong, not going to let it stop me from having what I want.
So the cool thing about Nav/Waze/Split screen, is that it's stupid-easy to plug your phone into the truck via USB, fires up Android Auto, and you have access to a bunch of apps on the screen, to include Waze. The split screen lets you choose what you want on the top and bottom of your "home" screen from a few different choices.

There are both soft and physical buttons. Inside the red box I drew in Paint is screen, outside is physical buttons. You can see the split-screen, with some of the Android Apps up top.

Built-in Nav, full screen (also can run split).
