Ok sorry that this might not be in the right group but you know what I mean!! I know a CAI won’t give me anything extra for the money and a delete of any kind is obviously not worth getting caught with. But how do I make it sound like a DIESEL and not a gasser with a tick? I want to hear the turbo whistle and let everyone else feel the exhaust brake kick on when I’m in traffic!! I miss those days! Anyone figure out how to make it happen legally yet??
 
Depends how much you want it.. move to Canada or a state where you do not need to worry about Karen's, delete and enjoy everything you say you miss plus so much more. A deleted diesel (especially Cummins) is more music to my ears and puts a bigger smile on my face than any of the other $100k+ sports cars I have owned and driven. There is just something different about letting a big Cummins girl eat!
 
Some older tunes had pilot injection disabled. I’m not sure if any of the companies north of the border are still doing this but it gave the common rail engine some old school diesel noise.
 
Sorry Diesel lovers I prefer the quiet sound of my 6.4 ticking over the roar of a diesel going through our quiet 55+ RV park. Others appreciates it as well. I know when I was younger the sound of cherry bombs and straight pipes was the in thing but man when you get older nothing is better than good ole peace and quiet and solitude. Ah what it's like to be young. Enjoy it lads because it don't last long.:)

There is nowhere in canada it is legal to have a deleted truck
 
I like my quiet diesel .. I would think if you delete that you would want to keep it quiet as to not draw attention.. my state ,Indiana has no emissions testing but I travel out of state alot.. just curious has anyone ever been pulled over and checked? Are they doing this yet?

I know lots of guys who have been pulled over and fined huge here in canada from being deleted mainly because they are set to the highest tune and spitting out black smoke everytime they mash the throttle
 
Not being a diesel guy myself I probably don't have a valid comment on this thread. BUT - I have been behind a couple big pickups running diesels (don't know the brands but probably 3/4 or 1 tons) that sounded like jet engines spinning up every time they accelerated; it was an extremely high-pitched noise that ramped up to what seemed like 600db when the dude touched his accelerator then and immediately bled off as he moved ahead. Both those times we were in heavy stop-and-go traffic and I was right behind them. It darn near drove me crazy - the high pitch jet screaming noise. I've got pretty serious tinnitus and the diesel-jet noise was killing me, and I couldn't get away. At one point when the traffic was stopped again, I felt like jumping outa my old Dakota running up to the diesel driver and begging him to pull outa line and off the road. It was that obnoxious. But, I probably woulda got my butt kicked. (I'm almost 70 and not as tolerant of scrambling as I used to be.) Ha ha. Anyway, eventually the traffic thinned out and he sped away, and the world came back to normal again.

By the way for you diesel guys - what in God's name is on those engines that makes it sound like an F-16 engine spinning up? And is that supposed to be cool?
 
I'm 55 ,my old harley was lound and so was my diesel. And I also liked it. But now there both quiet and I like it .. maybe I just hit that 50+ old fart snoby age.. idk

Thats just the unmuffled sound of the turbo

Good. That crap is both obnoxious and horrendous for the environment and the people who live within it. I know that's not a popular opinion here, one guy in this thread would probably even call me a Karen for it, but I'm pretty fed up with the excessive black smoke and removal of emissions components at this point in my life.

Living in a place where I can actively witness the air quality shift red and the pollution build up, between winter storms, it's terrible. We should all be trying to improve the air we all breathe, not ruin it.

Nothing more fun than having headaches and feeling short of breath for the majority of your waking hours.

That said I do recognize it's not just passenger vehicles causing this, and more specifically diesel truck owners, but there is a damn good reason those fines are getting more and more prevalent.
 
The EPA has truly shook up the diesel community. Everyone is scared to say the "D"word these days in fear of being reprimanded, I can assure you over in the gasoline world people are rocking free flowing exhausts all over. I have been a gearhead for more than two decades and will continue to do whatever I want for the next few decades, despite all the Karens out there. To me its not about the power or the sound but more so about the reliability and efficiency...... clean tuning FTW.

With that said, a deleted Cummins wtih the correct muffler on it has the perfect tone to it in my opinion.
 
I've never had a diesel because I don't have the need. But I miss hearing the "bolts in the pan" sound of the old diesels.
