At 56 years old, I just got my first tattoo.
I have had plenty of opportunities and reasons to get a tattoo over my lifetime. I joined the military in the 80's. Active duty Navy. I went around the world and saw and did some crazy things. I got out, got married young, then joined the Army as a 12B. Got wounded and discharged. Went into law enforcement. Started my own business. Raised two kids. Divorced after 20 years of marriage. Still, no tattoos.
Nothing against them. Just never thought of one that I wanted on my body for the rest of my life. Then they became cliché and a status symbol for those trying to make a statement or appear tough. Not my style.
Finally, about a year ago, I met a woman who had one. Sweetest, kindest, most humble woman I've known. She had one done that represented her traveling overseas to Japan to spend time with her military son and her grandkids. Hummingbirds and cherry blossoms. It touched my heart.
So I thought about her tattoo and what mine would look like. I decided that I would want the official state tree of Idaho, Idaho spelled out in the roots of said tree, and the initials of my kids and grandkids.
I consulted with a local artist, came up with an acceptable design, and two hours and $300 later, I had my first tattoo...

I'm wondering what tattoos other members have, and if anyone else waited until late in life to get them.
