Tailgate light bar

In my seemingly ever-increasing list of items of personal "flare" that im contemplating for my truck, I an giving thought to installing an LED Tailgate light similar to this one:

I've seen these on plenty of trucks but I was wondering how yall cope with the fact that the hole that the light bar covers the hole that goes to the spare-tire hoist.

Any advice?

One of the reviews on the lights that you posted say they are only 7/8” thick l. I’d say you would be able to mount them high enough to not interfere with getting to the spare tire winch. It may be a little tight getting to be it but it should still be doable.

I like the light bars, but hate the flat plug. I would have to wire in behind the bumper. Spare tire access, well, I would just carry what I needed to pull light loose. Just my $.02.........which is worth about $.0002 these days

Best things in life are tight.
Once my truck arrives, I'll be sure to mock it up before I order anything.
 
I like having a tailgate id bar, but I prefer the factory one that came on the dually trucks instead of the aftermarket ones.
 
I went with this bar, combined with the 7/4 pin Y harness.



However, if I had to do it over again, I'd go with one of the more flexible ones. There are two raised areas on each side that prevented me from getting this one fully flush. I don't see it ever having an issue, but it still bothers me a bit.

To avoid covering the spare hoist access hole, I removed the black plastic "grommet" and installed just above the access hole.

I tried, but couldn't snap a meaningful photo while everything is plugged in, but hopefully I can explain it....

Essentially you unplug the 7-pin harness from the back of the plug which protrudes out the rear bumper. You then plug that into the 7-pin female end of the Y harness Y_harness_2.jpg.
Plug the 7-pin male end of the Y harness into the receptacle on the bumper, then you have the spare 4-pin harnessY_harness_1.jpg to utilize for the LED bar. You then still have fully functioning 7-pin and 4-pin receptacles on the bumper for towing use.

How is the light bar helping with visibility on rear view camera at night? Right now with everything stock I can't see much on the reverse camera. I was thinking maybe the led bar will help

When I added the same to my 2016 with the 5" screen I remember it being a big difference.

But now that I have the 12" screen, I can't say the difference is as significant, though I'm not sure if it is because I'm still reveling in the improved visibility between the screens, or if it just wasn't as impactful.

I was thinking the view sucks because of the 5" screen. Parts are on the way to upgrade to 8.4" screen. Hopefully this will help.
 
How well do these work as backup lights? Do they make a real improvement? Not so much camera wise but mirror wise, and illumination for work, etc...I’m considering this instead of some led pods hanging below the bumper.

I don't feel like they add much usable light for reversing. I do notice them when getting close to something, but definitely miss the LED pods I had in my bumper on my '16.

I installed those in my 2020. Much much better now
