Tailgate gap filler?

I got the Rok Block in. The width is perfect as it lines up on two straight edges. Came with an adhesive promoter pen, so there was plenty. Tailgate is more firm to close, but not bad and still opens with the fob. I will never need to remove the tailgate so I think this was the better one for my needs.

Is that the wide one? I see in the amazon description they suggest it for 2019+ rams.

I used the 4.25". I based that choice off the rokblock website where they show the 4.25 on a 2019 Laramie 2500 with the exact same bed and tailgate contours as my power wagon. Both with rambox too. I measured and the fit between the first channel edge in the bed and the raised contour on the tailgate was also 4.25" same as pictured on the 2500 on the rokblock website. If I had used the 7 inch one, it would have put it over the raised edge or up onto the bed ribs.

Thanks for the pics!

This is a very important point and your pictures illustrate it well. Accounting for the ridges and contours may be a missed calculation for someone.

What’s the negative to it being up on the raised edge of the tailgate? The ridges in the bed I can see. I’m just trying to figure out why the mfg recommended the wider piece.

It is possible both sizes will work just fine, but are you sure the mfg recommends the 7 inch? The mfg website clearly shows the 4.25 inch for the Rams. On mine it fit that space like it was made just for my truck. Here are sreenshots from the rok block website.

I did not go on the actual webpage, I was reading the linked amazon one.

They sure make that confusing. This was on the 7" description. Mine is installed and I am happy with it so far, but if you order one, you might want to call and ask what is best for your truck.

The original tailgate gap cover, since 1999, "ROK BLOCK XL" bridges the gap between the truck bed and tailgate preventing the loss of materials such as gravel, dirt, mulch and sand. 7" width is compatible for most pickups worldwide including Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, 2021 and newer Ford trucks with hinge retainer bracket, Ford Lightning, 2019 and newer Ford Ranger, RAM 2500 and 3500.

Not compatible with 9 pickups (Use 4.25" width ROK BLOCK): Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, RAM, RAM with RamBox, Ford Maverick, Jeep Gladiator, Nissan Titan, Toyota Tacoma and Toyota Tundra. Excluded pickups for both ROK BLOCK and ROK BLOCK XL (2): Honda Ridgeline with Dual Action Tailgate and RAM with Multifunction Tailgate.

Finished up today with adding the seals on the sides. I used "ultimate tailgate seal. I kinda did my own thing with it instead of following any directions. I'm not seeing any light get through anywhere, so it is as good as it is going to get. My retrax has two small gaps at the front corners that does have weatherstripping, but a tiny bit of water still gets in there, so I added a second layer with leftover tailgate seal.

Yep, clear as mud.

Anyone install a tailgate gap filler or gap cover between your tailgate and bed? What one did you use? Did it hold up or any other issues with it? Work with a spray in bedliner? TIA for any input.
Hey Alligator John, this problem hexed me every time I unloaded debris from my truck after hauling stuff. So, I invented the Tail Bridge system for my Ford, but it also works on most Dodge/Ram trucks. We took it to market last March, have a look and let me know your thoughts. Site is www.tailbridge.com It is made right here in America from stainless steel, works on slow drop gates as well. I would like to know what you think!
