Looks like I’m going to have to put some PPF where the cables contact the tailgate. This is after 1000 miles and bed has been barely used. And yes, it is the same on both sides.
You guys in the south are spoiled. A couple winters up here in the salt belt and that might be a rust bucket. Doesn't take too long for the corrosion to take effect.

It’s probably a good idea to protect it but just a little peace of mind whatever that grey layer under the paint is made of it’s way tougher than the paint. The paint scratches if you look at it funny. I have many scratches to the grey stuff, especially on the tailgate.
