Suspension upgrade

After driving the PW a week after the upgrades with it fully loaded I can say the rear end WAGgle is gone. The truck rides a little firmer over the small bumps but handles mid to larger bumps much better. Truck definitely feels more planted and is handling the weight better.

I have loaded the Power Wagon and ran it on some trips. The track bar took care of that rear shimmy it had. On my last adventure I tackled some pretty tight trails and when coming back down the hill I started to notice a clicking sound coming from the front end. When I got back home I found that one of the new 5160 front shocks was blown and all the oil had leaked out. Not sure what caused the failure but it is covered by warranty. I was not running the sway bar disconnect so it did not over flex. I have a full set of 5160s that I got from suspensionlifts.com so I am interested to see if maybe the shop I used that provided 5160s got the wrong ones for the PW. The ride had been great up to this point. The shock was replaced under warranty no questions asked.

Bringing this back alive. Two (2) questions - you only did a track bar and shocks, right? Dumb question - the shocks are bolt-on - correct?

Shocks are 2 bolts each.

If you’re new to turning wrenches it’s a fairly simple place to start. Any trouble you run into you can easily figure it out with the help of YouTube.

My 5160 shock was warranted and have all been working great. I have had them on many wash board roads and they are great improvement over stock.

So I just installed a full set of 5160's on my Wagon....Now I have fallen down a rabbit hole of how to mount the reservoir......I still havent found a concrete answer to the question of the orientation of the remote reservoir. I have them mounted similar, but now I am not sure it can be mounted inverted like shown in the pics above or not. As in the hose running to the bottom of the remote instead of what would be considered "right side up". I have read you cannot mount the reservoir upside down due to something about the gas and oil mixing, or something like that. Does anyone know the truth about this? Can the reservoir be mounted "upside down" with no ill effects?

I have had no ill effects with mine mounted with the hose down. I had mine installed by suspension shop so I am sure they knew what they were doing. The reservoir only holds the extra gas used to compensate for the oil when it gets hot in the shock body. If the oil ever reaches the reservoir the shock would have to be bad.

So after having theses 5160's on for a few days, wow! I can easily take the FSR's and trails I ride here a good 10 mph faster with these shocks. Not that I'm too worried about the speed, but that's just how much better these guys are. Impressed! Glad I did some searching. Found all four in a package from suspensionlifts.com for $994 to my door, and they were here in two days.
