Suspension sidebar to Are HO Cummins falling out of favor for SO for "22 3500? thread

So you quote me and "@" me in once post eh? Triggered?

We get your point... you have an 8k lb truck that rides "better" than a Cadillac because of Carli. Got it.

I am certainly not triggered LOL, but you always act the same way whenever there is a post you don't agree with. This is just the first time I have had it directed at me (post 68 and just above). We are not in grade school anymore - get over it.

And yes..It rides better than a Caddy TO me. See my explanation of why it is better to me than a Caddy in my post about it. BTW -- I didn't bring up Caddy, someone else did. My friends have mentioned it rides like a cloud. Glad that wasn't mentioned or you would be arguing about how a cloud rides.

Seriously though. Just go take a ride in a Thruen or Carli build and make your own determination on how it rides and what analogy you want to use.

Rides better than a caddy "to you" (whatever that means), yet you don't own--and have never owned--a one-ton 3500 truck. So..........................

What is it you are talking about again and why are you commenting?

Nevermind.. i dont really care lol.

HAHA Please just go drive one. I have driven many3500s with and without modified suspensions. And I explained in my post what that meant.

Why do you like the leaf over the coils on the current platform?

IMO, the 3500s have a bit more predictable handling when driving offroad, especially in the whoops or coming out of rough corners at speed. Leafs are also less complicated and seem like they have less stuff to break. I think the coil system may work better in the crawly stuff though. Part of that could be because I was used to my 2007.

Guys, guys.

I can see that for sure. Leaf has built in stability over the coils, so arguably much better for anything high speed. I had gone with the 2500 just so I could get the coils, back east it's much slower going. I do sometimes regret not getting the 3500 for the additional payload, but I think that's just the "always better" situation. These things have identical axles and all so realistically it's not something extra I'd need, not that I even get close to it now.

Thanks for sharing the thoughts.

Agree 100% I love my truck. Is it the best for what I like to do? Nope. But not too far behind either.

You don't have to own one to drive or ride in one. If you hang around in the off road circles you will meet people, make friends and get to ride in all types of setups. I have driven and ridden some properly modified stock type trucks and they can be pretty amazing when it comes to capability and then ride quality on the street is in a different league than stock. I made the "ride like a caddy", that was in reference to the 50's are 60's Cadillac tanks. I grew up riding in some of them and they were some of the smoothest cars I've ever been in. New Cadillac's that are performance based usually still ride very firmly and the comparison doesn't hold true. Have you ever been in a well setup truck off road?

I would completely agree! My guess is that he has never been off road in anything other than stock and certainly not at any great speeds. At the time I was doing wiring with a buddy of mine and that led to me doing complete efi setups and they eventually had me do the plumbing too. Being that I knew a majority of the systems and am also mechanical it got me in the "co driver" seat pretty frequently, especially when doing shakedown stuff and things tend to sometimes show up.

I am a SoCal native of 43 years. To say I'm deeply in the "off road circle" would be a gross understatement. Ive ridden in, driven, and owned, the exact trucks we are talking about. They can be extremely capable off road and amazing machines, yes. However, the closer you get your 1 ton truck to becoming a competent desert prerunner, the further away it is from a work truck capable of pulling 30k lbs safely.

And further, a simple shock and spring swap on a 3500 truck is simply NOT going to make it "ride like a caddy". You are going to have to go waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay further down the "built off-road truck" rabbit hole to achieve that.

To each their own and again... some NICE set ups on this website.

This is a fun thread - Thuren springs, Fox IFP's, and a Carli add-a-leaf have mine riding nice. It's no caddy - more like a Lincoln Navigator status :D

I remember when transports had leafs and solid cab mounts it was awful to drive, now they have bags and bagged cab mounts and they ride better than my 3500 ever could…. Anything can ride nice and handle weight if setup properly to say you can have one or the other is completely wrong….
