I am coming from a 2017 1500 Ram to my current 2020 Ram, i might be nit-picking, but, is the steering on the 2020 2500 a different kind than the 2017 1500 was?
My 2020 seems to have quite a bit more "slop", not uncontrolable, yet noticable, or should it be tighter and i need to have it looked at!!
I have 6700 miles on this truck now.

Thanks

It’s worlds different in the way it operates and feels.

Your ‘17 ram, I believe, would’ve had electronic rack and pinion steering. These systems are very responsive and high tech.

the 2020 HD has a steering gearbox with a drag link and tie rod. This is a very low tech system but It’s a tried and true system, very robust. It won’t feel as responsive as the electronic rack and pinion.

Your right.... also the 2500 has more moving parts so can feel more “sloppy”

Hey Rock, I didn't take in account, but, am sure the stock Firestones might also be having some input on the way it feels.

I know the tires from my 2011 Miata to even my Goldwing motorcycle make the feel quite differnt, depending on what type I run.

to be honest, I had a 2014 Ram 2500 w/Cummins, the same cooper tires didn’t even last me 30K miles (and it was a 60K warranty tire). when my new factory tires wear out I will try other tires.

I have gotten 60k miles out of them before

I had Continental Terrain Contacts on my 2017 and combined with the Rack and Pinion steeringing that Rockcrawler said I had on it, the truck had awesome steering, hard not to go back to them.

I went from an 18 2500 to a 21 2500 both diesels and the first thing I noticed was the steering felt lighter.. took a couple of days to get use to it..

Went from a 2017 1500 Laramie to the 2020 2500 Limited and it definitely has a different feel. Took a few weeks to get used to the difference. Don't even notice it now.
