Soliciting Opinions on SO/HO Cummins

I see a solid and repeatable 15-16 mpg avg
2022 3500 CC LB DRW 4WD 3.73
Longhorn Trim
100% stock

I use hotshots secret EDT every fill up at the 2oz per 25 gallon rate. Also one tank of Hotshots extreme every 6-8k.

The truck sees a 60/40 mix of highway and local driving. Tows intermittently.

I run 70-75 mph on the interstate. When below 55-60mph I lock out 6th to keep rpm’s up. My truck has performed 13 active regeneration cycles in 10,000 miles traveled.

Now we wait for the truck to be built. I've seen such a wide range of times from build sheet submission to vehicle shipping in the crowd sourced build/VIN tracker thread.

It really seems these trucks can take as little as a month to be delivered, to as long as 8. I went with a Night Edition Laramie HO with all the safety bells and whistles and it seems those take slightly longer, though the tracker does have limited data. It does seem that trucks are being built more quickly since May (maybe due to decrease in demand?).

Thanks for the support so far everyone! This thread has been very educational.

Just out of curiosity did you spec out an equally equipped limited? With all the bells and whistles they’re usually not far apart. Limited is a significant upgrade in interior and exterior finishing.

I did, I think they were about $6,000 different in price. I really wanted the interior of the Limited, but I'm paying cash for this truck and I was already going over what I wanted to spend with a Laramie. Had to draw the line somewhere. It's upsetting that a '23 Tradesman truck with all the safety features is about $85k, which was exactly what the Laramie was costing folks just a year and a half ago (if YouTube is to be believed). I'll expect to pay just under $94k for my Laramie.

Is that $94k after the 11.5% off MSRP discount?

You should already know what the max you’ll pay is, and it may be lower based on incentives at the time of delivery.

I didn’t get the safety group B with my 22, but I was nowhere near $85K on my Laramie that was built last May. I took delivery in August, but the sticker price was May based. My purchase price was from the December order date. It would have been just over 85K had I paid full sticker, which you shouldn’t be doing on a custom order.

@mbarber84 I come up with about 7K difference building similar Laramie and Limited trucks. Ram really screwed the Laramie owners for 23+, as options that were previously available no longer are and they force the 12” screen on any Laramie Level package. No fender flares are easy to fix, but still BS. The lack of the digital rear view mirror is really aggravating especially since that’s one of the things that was on my mandatory list. So if I had to shop for a new truck I’d have to live with the 12” screen and choose if I wanted the DRVM or 6 passenger seating more. At least I’m very happy with my ‘22.

Those were just the Build and Price figures shown. I'm currently out of NH visiting family, but I have an appointment with the salesman that's been working with me to finalize the build week after next. I sent him the information and asked what incentives were available, but he didn't seem to think there were any I'd be eligible for. If there's an 11.5% discount off MSRP, is there something special you have to do to get them to honor that?

Only certain dealerships will give you that much off the MSRP. Mark Dodge in Lake Charles Louisiana is one of them.

Darn, that's such a significant chunk of change it might even warrant a $100 flight. Do they deal with out of state people trying to save some green? lol

Yes they’ll sell a truck to anyone. There’s a thread for 2023 orders here that I’m sure you’ll find very informative. I’ve not personally bought a truck through them, as my local dealer offered me a comparable deal when I ordered my 2022. However there are several high volume dealer’s throughout the US that will give you anywhere from 8-11% off MSRP on a sold-order truck. They’ll also lock in your pricing when you sign the order that way there’s no surprises at the time you take delivery. Mark Dodge was the #1 seller last year. Their policies for sold-order trucks are no hassles and everything is upfront. They get high praise here and elsewhere.

I'll give them a call then. I've liked the folks I'm working with up in New England, but looking at their inventory they have almost 0 discounts. A ancillary look at Mark Dodge shows they have extremely deep discounts on all of their 3500s. With a purchase this large it warrants shopping around. I wonder if they deliver interstate for a fee. I'm totally willing to fly there to pick it up though.

Yeah they can help you with delivery but they’ll also pick you up at the airport or meet you part way (I think). That’s why I asked you earlier if you had looked at the limited. The price savings you’ll see with Mark Dodge (or similar large volume dealer) would allow you to bump up to the next trim level and pay the same you would for a Laramie.

An 11-11.5% discount off MSRP (absent of any incentives) amounts to Ram's Employee Purchase price, their best deal.
Like you, I took a website dealer quote (not Mark Dodge) to my local dealer and they gave me an even better deal.
It seems most local dealers, given the opportunity will match a website dealer quote.

This may be the most financially rewarded I've ever been for signing up for a website! Thank you so much for all the knowledge, gentlemen.

Granger in IA also does deep discounts. Reach out to @zach@granger here on the forum.

There's quite a few threads discussing discounts off MSRP and dealer threads as well.

I did my factory order deal with the local Autonation sales manager and got around 4% under invoice, ~11% off MSRP. You could get into that Limited for those savings. Don't regret it for one minute. The better leather, lights, etc. are all worth it.

Also if you're considering any extended Maxcare (official) warranty, Granger has been doing them for $50 over cost, about the same you'll pay going to a discounted online option like Zeigler. Do a little more research on this before purchasing.

I also used the warranty and financing as leverage to get my dealer to take a $35K deposit on my United Club (miles) card. ;-)

That's where I ordered my 22 from. Great experience, and the same discount as Mark Dodge.

There is a dealer in Virginia that also offers the "ordered trucks only" discount. They are bit more shady in extra fees, so read your paperwork carefully. I can't remember their name at the moment though.

Granger might actually be the better move if my local dealer here in NH won't match/play ball. I think they're just straight up located along I-90. Could turn it into a road trip with my father who is based out of Cleveland, he would get a kick out of this big time.

I'm still so torn, I love the Limited's leather, but it seems either way you can't actually spec out a Night Edition without getting black leather. Maybe this is just an issue with the Build and Price, but the Granite Crystal plus brown leather interior is very sharp to me.

I'm now agonizing about going Diamond Black for my truck's exterior color since I can't seem to choose any interior leather color beside black with a Night Edition package selected. If I go this route I'd probably just do a Laramie and pass my savings on to get a full frontend PPF job.

Thanks again for all the information/options!

If you have the name of the dealer/could dig it up, I'd be much obliged. I have friends/family in VA in the DC metro area and it's the closest of the options so far.

Thank you!

I believe he’s talking about Koons.

As mentioned above Koons in Northern VA offers great pricing but I have heard the customer service is not the greatest. A few members have posted about this and how they try to really push for add ons when you go to sign your papers. If you are willing to deal with the BS koons will be your best bet. They seem to honor price which is main thing.

Also, I think most dealers will let you order at invoice, if your local dealer is charging MSRP for a custom order you need to walk away. I previously lived in OH and ordered my 22 from Cronin Ram in Lebanon for 1% under invoice. Sure there were better deals to be had but after traveling costs this turned out to be a good deal. Bottom line is shop around, look for invoice locally or you can get do way better out of state.
