Smog test California

Well it's looking like that is how this is heading as well. Did they by chance change your PCM, not just reset it? We have had ours re-flashed after the Y43 recall and had the Catalytic converter as well as the DPF changed and almost 4000 miles.
They did not change out the PCM. If they do manage to get it fixed please post the solution.

4k miles to set monitors is absolutely absurd.

I bought my truck brand new (ordered it, actually) in Auburn, WA -- I live in Southern California. Flew up one-way ticket to pick up truck and drove straight down some 1150 miles. Smogged it in CA the day after I arrived in CA without issue.

I agree, the catalyst monitor (regens) requires two regen cycles. depending on how the truck is driven that could take a couple thousand. I think from the factory they are set as ready.

I smogged mine for Calif registration when new, because it came in from out of state. Lucky for me the county I live in does not have smog test requirements,, so no need to do anything else.

I have been to that site and actually talked with them and the California Bureau of Automotive Repair. Good info, especially if you are not under the manufacturers warranty.

Baker, I am in the same damn situation. My tags were due back in May and I've been dealing with it ever since. I went to the dealer and they told me they were going to replace the crank case filter and clean the EGR valve for only $2300. I told them to let me have my truck back. Hell, now I'm thinking I should've paid them to do it. I replaced the filter and cleaned the EGR valve for around $300. I drove it for a while, but every time I took it back to the smog place it wouldn't pass. I even bought a new ERG valve, $600 later a few hundred more miles, and still a no go. Since then I have put on well over 5k miles and this morning it still hasn't passed. I don't know what to do. This is so frustrating.

I was in the same situation.

Check your truck with a code reader to see if you have a PENDING CEL...theres a difference between Pending and a hardset CEL. Pending will not show the dummy light UNTIL certain conditions are set BUT the obd port recognizes it and you will fail smog. If it's pending, the EGR status will not flip. I had a pending cel related to my handcontrols. Anyhow, cleared the codes took a drive up into the mountains and all the statuses flipped. Maybe the variation in elevation made it flip sooner than. But as soon as they flipped found the most local smog station to cert it. The 2 that are allowed to not flip is NOX catalyst and PM filter.

This is the reason I sold my 2018 CCLB 3500 with only 18k miles on it. I took it to the dealer and they had to drive the truck 2000k miles before all the monitors would fully reset.

Very happy with my new to me RAM 2022 CCSB 2500 with 6.4 Hemi!!

My trucks EGR set to ready today. The truck has been parked on my property (no registration) for the last 3+ months. The EGR monitor was not ready when parked. The truck has ben moved about 100 feet once a week. On a whim I decided to plug in the reader today and the EGR monitor reported ready. Pure magic. Hopefully it stays ready from here to the smog station.

This state is so effing stupid.
What? No way! This state is awesome. Its run exclusively by democrats who care soooo much for us regular working folks trying to squeak out a living. Thats why its so affordable to live here. Cheap houses, cheap gas, cheap groceries, almost no fees on anything and, if there are fees, they're super cheap like our vehicle registration. Low taxes, very few regulations, and basically zero crime. Its because good democrats care! Its Paradise!! (wait..... Paradise CA burned to ashes a few years ago....)

This state hasn't had a Republican governor since Pete Wilson 25 years ago (sorry but Ahnold doesn't count), nor have Republicans had any control whatsoever at any level of state government in that time. No, I'm afraid the sad state of affairs here in the Great Golden State lays squarely at the feet of democrats. All of this smog testing nonsense and federal emissions gobliddygook that has wrecked our diesel trucks while providing VERY little actual measurable benefit, like it or not, is all democrat..... and many of them have managed to become quite wealthy from this "save the planet" climate change scam.
