2019 3500 limited dually H. O. Diesel with a total of 6800 miles has needed 2.5 qts of oil. Should I be worried?

I would be, take it to the service dept and have them document it now. Have them top it off and watch it like a hawk. Collect the evidence now for the future.

I made the mistake of topping off the oil. I was 800 miles from home but I will call them tomorrow. Thanks. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone know at what point Ram concedes that there's a problem? I feel like they'll string you along and hope you give up.

Depends on if you trusted them to fill it correctly from the factory?

Did you check the stick or did a notification come on?

If you checked the stick how long was it “resting” after you drove it before you checked it?

Just trying to get some context. Oil consumption isn’t uncommon but curious about some context. That much that quickly seems high. Maybe double that mileage sure.

I checked the dipstick. Truck was sitting overnight when I checked the oil.Used first qt. at 1650 miles and thought maybe factory underfilled so I topped it off. At 6800 miles 1.5 qts. /., `added. Just spoke to service and they say Ram considers a qt. every 2000 miles normal. Really? I have a 2005 Honda with 300,000 miles doesn't burn a drop.

My '05 5.9 Cummins went oil change to oil change without ever adding oil.

^ same here. my 3rd gen never used oil, nor does my 4 and 3/4 gen.

I'd like to see that explanation in the owners manual.

I poured in a quart after about the same distance, half of which was towing. I dumped the factory fill shortly thereafter and replaced with T6 5W-40. The level seems to be staying put since then. My opinion: 2.5 quarts in that distance is too much, regardless of what the dealer tells ya.
