Infamous service DEF see dealer has come one. Stopped in at dealer they did a quick scan and seems like level sensor is bad., They cleared and came back right away. They cannot get me in before I need to do a long trip northern Canada.

My question is will this warning stay on for a certain amount of time/distance and then give me a limp mode derate, or if it isn't that serious of an issue will it just stay at the service def see dealer stage until rectified?

I have searched and some seem to just go to the limp/derate right away for other issues not much mention if of any time between the first warning and the timer.

Thanks

According to the owners manual you have 200 miles from when the service DEF message appears. You should start seeing a countdown at 150 miles.

I would try draining and refilling the tank.

We're you able to solve this without replacing the sensor? Mine spent a month in the dealer's lot last winter to get the part. Just starting a deep freeze and curious how others are managing this issue.

Delete lol, not much you can do

The dealer wasn't able to get me in before I was due to leave on my trip so I bought the def module (pump/sensoe/heater) and replaced it myself.

Started the truck up and warning was still there, did 3 pr 4 start cycles in case it needed a few to recognize the new part but with no luck.

I ran back to the dealer to see if they could just reset the light but they didn't have time or know how. They had some of their experienced staff on holidays and their engineer/tech hotline was closed for new years.

With the truck unusable I left it there and we used a different vehicle for our trip. As soon as they were able to reach out to their tech line they got it cleared right away.

I would have deleted that day if our local shop was available but same thing closed for holiday season.

Would also delete today but there are some unknowns still trying to figure out. My truck hasn't received the HPFP replacement yet. Worried about going in deleted to get that done if they would even, and then having them need to reflash then lock the truck out with the new security levels on ecm flash.

Y78 is a safety recall, they have to do it, deleted or not

The flash lockout situation seems to have been a problem with the early 2019 flash software and it seems to have been corrected as the lockout reports seem to have stopped. I sat "seem/s" because no one knows for sure. However, the lockout reports seem to have stopped. Maybe someone has some factual info they can share, It Ram has incorporated a lockout I am concerned that any new flash for any reason would lock my 2020.
