Semiconductor Chip Shortage Causes Ram To Repackage Some Options:

Wouldn't be surprised to see that the chipset supplier is the same across the manufacturers while the embedded firmware is where IP resides. Access to the semi technology is virtually the same while license agreements and the political power of the purchasing departments separates actual sourcing success and ultimately production volume.
 
As one door closes, another opens. This same chip shortage has also increased the KBB price of sought after vehicles. I traded my 2016 Ram ED Laramie for my 2021 2500 after seeing the KBB jump up $10k from last year. My '21 2500 was built in 03/21 and had all the bells and bangles. If your looking to sell/trade, this is the time.

I was in my local CJDR dealer earlier this month trading my wife's car in and the salesman was showing me how stupid prices have gotten. They are a tad high on new Rams to begin with (but they keep selling), but man they have blown up. They had a truck that was close but slightly less equipped than mine and it was $17k higher than I paid in September at an out of town dealer.
 
Ill put this out there, I design Aircraft, we have first dibs to quite alot of things, including electronics. ( FAA certified manf have alot of pulling power) and even we are getting close to the "ohh ****" moment of needing them. Our supplier, who is US based, is expecting shortages for 2 Fiscals years.

I work in electronics, supplying aircraft, and you are getting second dibs. By law rated orders for defense are always first dibs. Certain plastic resins are the culprit right now but its 6 mo to a year and it was on zero notice. 2 years from your supplier is an underpromise and overdeliver estimate.
 
Correct, I work for the DOD.
 
Lol, I bet so. Gonna be interesting to see where it goes in the next 18 months. The hardest hit part for us right now is radar components. Even our units that are being sent in for over haul sit for way longer than they should.
 
Hello all, so IF i read the article correctly.... Does this mean the affected trims that will NOT come with the BSI is Larime and lower? I ordered a 2022 3500 Limited with the safety group, level 1, etc, so I should be getting the BSI correct? I hope lol

I am not sure the Limited is affected, but on my Laramie they had to add blind spot as a separate line item. The packages were Level A or B instead of 1 or 2. Did the dealer provide a Priced Order Confirmation (POC)?

I wish my Ram had a larger convex mirror on the passenger side. I do find the blind spot monitor helpful but it would be much better with a bigger convex mirror.

This chip and resin shortage has been really killing me at my job right now.
