S/O Has Plenty Of Power

I would have got the SO if the standard was still an option. Unfortunately standard was too outdated and wouldn't keep up with power output anymore that's one of the reasons it was dropped
I personally think the standard option was dropped because the PCM could not control how the transmission shifted. This, in turn, would adversely effect emissions. It is most definitely not a "too much input shaft torque" problem.
 
Here is a link posted in another forum section. The SO 2500 Ram out tows a New chevy Duramax with a 10 speed up a hill. with better efficiency. They have another video comparing the HO Ram 3500 with the Ford and Chevy and they are all close. The SO is a beast.
 
Your Ford 550 must be old. The latest 6.7's will destroy any new cummins, HO or SO, in a straight line or up a mountain.
I traded my 2019 Ford for the SO. It was faster but the steering death wobbled a lot. As far as out pulling the Cummins. I don't think so. They are about equal. I have a F350 2021 in my fleet and it pulls the same.
 
I got a 2021 5500 with an SO and Aisin same if not better pulling them the 2016 3500 srw HO with Aisin I had. I also have a new f600 with the 6.7 and a 10 speed the ram loaded gets up the hill on the highway quicker.
 
Also, I've ran 18 wheel dump trucks and driven F750 crew trucks pulling full size backhoes that had engines with less than 800 lb/ft.

The SO ISB Cummins is a monster.
My tractor has 105 hp and it pulls pretty damn hard. 24 forward and reverse gears gets the credit.

The trans has nothing to do with emissions the 2 big reasons they cant run a manual in these trucks in my mind would be the torque management and the fact that a single disk clutch would not hold the torque for any longevity and they would never do a dual disk factory setup thats all besides the fact that the manual sales were minimal compared to the days of old so why waste money offering it
