Rusting part 5 month old truck

So the passenger side tailgate cable is starting to rust pretty bad in my opinion. Especially since the truck is 5 months old and lives in Arizona. There is zero rust on the drivers side one. I’m guessing these are galvanized and if so I’m guessing the galvanizing didn’t take on the rusted one. Anyway, the dealership said they aren’t sure if that’s covered and they would get back to me.

It should be covered under the 3 year 36,000 bumper to bumper warranty. I guessing the service department won’t try very hard to replace it.

Yea that’s not acceptable, it seems that one skipped the galvanizing process at the vendor who made those. I wouldn’t take “not covered under warranty” as an answer.

It should be covered under the 3 year 36,000 bumper to bumper warranty. I guessing the service department won’t try very hard to replace it. I'm guessing also that they probably won’t try very hard. Sad since it’s a $20 or less part and takes 3 seconds to replace. Also it limits against the paint/body of the bed. Once it wears off the paint it will start to rust the steel in that area.

So after a week and a text message to the service writer with no response I stopped in the dealer yesterday and said they would replace the part under warranty. They also said they would call when it came in but they don’t know when that will be because of the strike.

Jesus if thats considered rusting to you make sure you never move to Canada! Lol

I can see your point though since you are in AZ

The truck is 5 months old and has never left Arizona. We don’t have rust in Arizona. Rail companies like BNSF frequently leave unused train cars in the tracks in the desert because they won’t rust. Also Ram agreed that that amount of rust was unacceptable. The entire part is covered in surface rust while the other side is clean as a whistle. The problem is as I open and close the tailgate the moving of that part will wear on the clear coat and paint of the bed. My concern is rust spreading to the bed body, not the $20 part. If it has that much surface rust after 5 months in Arizona, imagine a year in Canada. Oh and no offense but I will never go to Canada ever, I own to many “items” i would have to sell to move there.
