The farthest rear mount on the passenger side running board has loosened. It looks like the hexagon hole is striped/rounded, but there is a second hexagon hole.

Can I just unscrew it and move it to the second hex hole and then retighten it?

If the second hole has a nut insert, yes. One would have thought that the factory would have put in two bolts.

I agree. That looks half ass. I’m gonna check mine now!

Yes the second hole needs the nut sert for your bolt to thread into.

Sort of stupid for the factory to only put in one bolt when people stand on the darn thing. I guess because Chrysler can save 5 cents per vehicle. Is the front bracket installed the same way? I wonder it is possible to install a second nut insert without special tooling. I would want two bolts in each bracket for safety reasons.

You can install nutserts with a bolt washer and nut. Thats how I used to do it before started using then more then I bought the tool

You can see that the nutsert wasn’t crushed properly/all the way allowing it to pull out. You should have 2 bolt and nutserts per bracket.

When I installed a set of used OEM running boards on my 2023 2500 I picked up a hardware kit off Amazon. You can purchase through the dealer but it’s gonna be around $100:

Side step hardware

I just checked my 2021 3500 and each bracket has TWO bolts in it. That hardware kit referenced above is a good price.

Interesting I just checked my 2020 2500 and has two holes at each mounting point bracket (in body & bracket), but only one BOLT per mounting bracket.

Do the running boards have to be taken off to install the nutserts????

The installer was lazy or they had one kit for both running boards instead of the 2 kits.

I have a 2021 3500 with the full length factory running boards that have 3 mounting brackets. While under the truck I noticed they only installed 1 main bolt on each bracket. No issues to date, and they were tight. However, I wish they would have installed bolts in both mounting holes .

I'm glad I do my own maintenance, mods and accessory work..

I've been under mine a couple of times this week, and I sure didn't pay attention to the step bolts. Now I have to go back under. At 68 years old, it's not fun crawling around underneath things anymore.
