Anyone else getting ridiculous routes when using navigation? Several times lately the directions will have me turn, going the opposite direction, and make a u turn within 1/8 mile or less? And these aren’t newly built roads or neighborhoods. If I ignore the U-turn portion of the directions, it will keep recalculating to go back and do it anyway.

Unfortunately I don't use the onboard nav systems in cars anymore. Just use my CarPlay and the map apps that I have on there. If I'm in a pinch I will use them but they are usually flawed (as you are experiencing), can't use voice commands unless you pay the subscription fee, and then you have to pay for updates...have all that on my phone and better overall experience without having to pay for it. I am sure they see it as another rev stream that is being eaten into and will go route of GM giving up all phone projection within the next few years to offer up more pay to play and sell your data. Cross fingers that is not where they are headed to (sorry for off topic there).

I’ve got a 2019 with the 12" screen and UC4 (don’t think the screen really matters). Mine works quite well overall, not perfect, but solid. I recently ran a trip across 8 states and didn’t have a single issue. I prefer the built-in system because it’s always there and designed for the truck. No messing with a handheld or some awkward mount and tiny screen.
I also have a 2025 Jeep GC with UC5. Haven’t put as many miles on it yet, but it seems to be working well so far. My usual approach is to zoom out first and confirm the route makes sense, tweak if needed, then let it run. After that, I can keep whatever I want on the main screen (audio, phone, etc.) and still get directions in the center cluster.
I don’t really need turn-by-turn most of the time, but I do like seeing distance to destination. To each their own...

Call me old, antiquated, old-school…..whatever, but I prefer a travel atlas or physical paper map to the oftentimes un-predictable gps. I preplan my route and which exits/turns needed. I hate the constant commentary of “bitchin’ Betty” and route recalculations.

I just use Google maps through Android Auto. We moved to South East Arizona November 2019, and I mostly use it when we have to go to Tucson, and I don't know the area.

Look at your settings for routes.
I have issues at times when its on shortest route. Had same issues on other systems.
It would tell me to take an exit, then get back on the freeway because the exit was shorter than taking the curve of the freeway.
