What sold me on the 2500 was a 3100 mile trip from NJ to San Diego CA. We left the NJ shore on 10/18 at 9 am and got to Davenport Ia about 12:30-1 am 900 miles away. We left the next morning at 7:30 and got to Estes Park Co the next night another 900 miles about midnight. The next morning it was the mid 20’s and there was a blizzard that blew in that took out 70,000 people’s electricity. We were lucky and didn’t lose it at the diner we had breakfast at. We didn’t have winter clothing for me and I asked where I could get warm clothes. The people at the diner told me about a nearby ski shop. Nothing was less than $350. I said is there something less expensive since I not needed it that day. I ended up getting a beat and a jacket that I wear regularly for $40 each. It was perfect for our 3 hour visit to Rocky MTN NP. I wear them constantly since. We then drive 700 miles to Zion NP and the next day saw some amazing landscapes as well as some monster mule deer less than 30 yards away! The best part was while we barely cut the surface of both parks because the Government was shut down it saved us close to $100 in fees to see the parks. Then we drove the final 600 miles to San Diego where my son will be stationed for the next 3 years. His truck handled every weather condition in 4 days like a champ. When we left Colorado we had a 4 hour drive in single track snow and ice on a 65mph highway and never exceeded 30Dang!! I'd take that kind of mpg in a heartbeat! I have seen some fuel mileage testing online that match your numbers. Mine has improved, but best ever is ~14.5 mpg on fairly flat drive from Belton Texas to South Pittsburg Tennessee. Maybe hit 15 in some spots. for the most part I average ~10-12 in town and up to ~14.5 highway, but empty and no real hills. Put my ~9k Rv behind it and ~6-8 mpg. I kinda thought that was to be expected, but it sounds like maybe when I finally get it running right I could possibly expect better. Sounds like yours is already performing nicely concerning MPG. I really appreciate the information and if/when I get this idle thing solved I will share the fix. I am determined.
Mph because we had between 500-1500 feet drops with no guard rails. We drove that for over 3 hours and then on route 70 we were forced to drive 80mph plus in the dark to drive with traffic while seeing Mtn sheep, elk and mule deer on the side of the road. If any of them ended up in the road we were at best severely injured and more than likely dead. It was the most stressful drive of my life. The first day we averaged 11 mph because we had a consistent 40-50mph head wind and picked up a little each day until we averaged 16.5mpg on the overall trip when we got to San Diego. We wouldn’t have come even close if the second half was the first half but the final 1 1/2 days were mostly downhill.
