So I was at the dealer getting repair done on my tailgate and my Salesman drops this on me. If any of have had your tailgate off take a look where the wiring goes into the tailgate and you will see about a 4 inch oval hole. My Salesman tells me that they have had a couple trucks in for tiny dents coming from the inside of the tailgate, Apparently small rocks are getting inside the tailgate and lodging in the frame work and over time are creating outward dents to the tailgate, GO FIGURE HUH!. So he suggested putting some tape over the hole to avoid this. I,m hoping I can find a grommet instead. Just wanted to give you guys a heads up.

I haven’t looked at mine closely but those may be where the water drains out that gets inside. May cause another problem by taping them off.

This has been an ongoing issue sense min 2017. I bought a new Rebel. Within a month after hauling a load of small diameter gravel I had two good sized dents pushing outwards on either side of the tailgate where the internal patches are.

Dealer at the time never seen it happen before and repaired it and suggested back in 2017 that I put tape over that opening.

I was wondering if Ram got off their wallet and fixed this issue.
