Remove gasket between bed and cab?

I was under the truck yesterday and noticed the gasket that fills the gab between the cab and the bed. Seen best from underneath. Looks like a magnet for debris and moisture. I read it was for reducing noise through the rear cab vents. Has anyone removed this? I’d rather have noise than rust.
 
I was thinking of doing the same. It’s just a matter of time before the paint starts to wear off on the back of the cab.
 
From what I read up on it. If you remove it, there are complaints that it increases noise in the cab and moisture from road spray. I found some 58 mil Helicopter leading edge tape 3” wide by 30’ roll for $65. This is the same material as paint protection film just 14 times thicker. That should handle the abrasion. I think I will use some of that between the seal and cab. I was already considering using it in a couple of other places. Don’t buy the super cheap stuff for bikes. It’s not the same thing.

Where do you buy it at? THX
 
If you live where it snows the strip can help trap the snow between cab and box. If the build up and turns to solid ice you will hear a noise!
 
Sorry guys, My mistake. The tape is 14 mil thick. Not sure where I seen the 58 mil spec. Still should provide enough protection for this app. It is ISC Helicopter-OG-HD Surface Guard Tape [14 mil Heavy Duty Outdoor Grade] findtape.com

What do you think of the 3m 51-2? It’s on Amazon for 38 bucks. 20 mil thick.
 
While being thicker, it is not rated for use below freezing. It is a different adhesive. Rubber instead of the Acrylic.

You might consider finding some neoprene or similar material to put between the top of the bed and cab, or make a flap over the gap, for the winter months. If you have the plastic cab vents I would definitely be concerned they would be damaged. Fortunately for me I got tired of shoveling and moved to the southern Columbia Basin.

Doesn’t hurt. I am only going to put 1 layer. It’s 3 times normal film.

16 years parked outside in Colorado and never an issue with snow/ice jammed up between cab and bed or any issues with the cab vents.

Then again, we do get a lot of sun.

Go north about 1000 miles. It can be a problem, even with the dam/strip/gasket removed. Persistent snowfall and a couple or three wacky freeze/thaw cycles and ya got creaky truck (ice between the bed/cab). Remedy is to hit the car wash (wand) and blast the ice out.

I used to be a mechanic for Continental Airlines at Stapleton. Lived in Thorton. I was one of the 800 who had to leave when the new airport was built.
