Remote Tailgate Release

Oh **** really I’ll have the 12” screen I didn’t know it’s subscription based. But maybe it can be added to release from there as well?
I dont think so but you can download the u connect app and see i guess

No you can just add the button to the fob with soldering skills and 9$ for 200 micro switches and the gate release will work off the FOB no programming needed i added it to me tradesman same with remote start( remote start needs programming)
I have a 2022 tradesman, I would like to add the remote tailgate. I bought a new key with the button. Asked my dealership if they could program it and they say they could but tailgate won’t work because my truck doesn’t have the release on the tailgate, is it possible for it to work? If the key was programmed. I already added the after market dampening shock.

All they need to do is program the key. Every 2019+ truck has the exact same electronic tailgate release. Your dealer is just clueless i guess.

Well… if they had a closure to go with it might be worth it…but just opener nah I’ll pass.
I find the tailgate release extremely handy when ever coming out to the truck with a hand full of stuff that I have to load in the bed. I use the remote to open it and when I get to the truck I can just dump every in the bed without fumbling for the fob or reaching for the tailgate handle. Then when your hands are empty its no biggy to shut the tailgate.

I primarily use it when backing up to my 5th wheels or when loading stuff in with the forklift

Just like anything else, it's a matter of opinion

I think it can be more trouble than they are worth due to possibility of unintentional release.

It only works in P or N, so unintentional release is difficult to do. The rewards outweigh the risk, as it’s a very useful feature.

I have to admit, I forgot about posting that. My opinion of the feature has since changed and I ended up installing the premium overhead console.....live and learn!

Which overhead console did you install? Would you be willing to share a photo or part number?

You were 100% in my case, I never use the feature intentionally but my tailgate took a savage beating by it unintentionally activating. Made certain that it can’t happen again, myself.

I can show you what features you will probably want but I have a 2019 and it has a light frost headliner and pillar trim. You are going to need a Black premium console. They went to an all black interior in the Tradesman with the '21 model year.
The part # for my OHC is 6EK051L1AF. I "think" the one you are looking for is #6EK051X7AF. Check with @01Time to verify that number and you will also need a separate harness for it. That you can get from @Jimmy07. 20230410_115342.jpg

Took my aftermarket key to the dealership today, they said key was good but they couldn’t program to my truck they tried several times . He claimed that my remote does not have that button for the tail gate and the remote I got has one and thinks that’s why it’s not being recognized. I did take my original one apart and touched where the button goes with a wire and it does open tailgate. Has anyone purchased a new key with this button ? And was it able to program it? And from where? The dealer said he could not order one without a vin for it. He said tradesmen don’t come with this option. But it does work just don’t know how to solder and don’t know where to find the button. Destroyed the aftermarket one trying to unsolder the buttons. I would hate to destroy my factory one trying to solder it.

Where was your fob from? Most order from online mopar retailers. Lots of people have had issues with ebay or amazon FOBs where they cant be programmed

I went cheep and ordered a aftermarket from car remotes.com . I am looking on the Mopar site now but when I enter my vin it say it may not be compatible. I have a 2022 ram 3500 tradesman, and don’t find one with the tailgate button that fits the tradesman. Dose anyone have a part number that may work with the tradesman?

If you can take the after market dampening shock and hardware back I would. All you need to do is remove the right taillight and add the dampening shock the post are already there and makes a clean OEM install. There is a YouTube video showing everything. I ordered my dampening shock from Chrysler. Most service writers don’t even know it’s there.

It appears very common that aftermarket keys will not program. I purchased a Mopar part number found on another tailgate release thread for a 5 button remote and it works flawlessly.

I’ve also been able to solder buttons into my original tradesman remotes and have them fully functional. If soldering is a hurdle for you, maybe there is a member close who could help out?
