Remote start added to 2020 Tradesman (SOLVED)

At the dealer now. They are saying the remote is throwing a signal but saying the radio hun isn’t programmed....

Are you having THEM add the sales code for remote start, or are you doing that yourself with AlfaOBD? If you’re enabling remote start with AlfaOBD, just have them program the fob. If they are enabling remote start for you, tell them to add sales code XBM.

Nope I did that. All set now. They did the rfh replacement process and that got it to read.

That make sense Jimmy ?

You need to drive the truck once, briefly. Then remote start will work.

Yea I went back to page 7 on this thread and re-read your advice to kristof.....I took it on a short 5 minute drive and parked it.... I'm going to wait for 20ish min and try again

I wonder if that’s what was happening at the dealership and they didn’t do this. In any case the rfh replace process fixed it in my case.

Well I got the remote from Carandtruckremotes.com
had it successfully programed at my local dealer for $64 (including cutting the emergency key)

Just left the dealer, the key activates the remote tailgate release and runs the truck no problem....

now for the AlfaOBD part....

can someone confirm for me I need to do the following:
  • VehConfig-1 Remote Start Present - YES
  • BCM, Cust.Set.Menu 1-Sound Horn with Remote Start CSM Present- YES
  • CBC I/O: Connector A Pin 11: Hood Ajar Switch Input Present- YES

Well farts.

My dealer just called and said the Limited FOBIK I got from Carandtruckremotes.com won't program.

Told them I wasn't paying the $90 if they can't make it work.

What's been the recourse on this? It's been over 30 days on the key purchase.

P.S.

Also dealer:
  • Pulling to the right on braking: NTF
    • (I have an email to SM the week I bought the truck (one year ago) stating it's pulling to the right on braking.) They suggested the pads still needed bedding. I guess I'll just take it to a trusted alignment shop/known acquaintance and have them do Thuren spec.
  • Chirping sound (idler pulley/belt): NTF
  • Batteries dead in airport garage (week long cold snap): NTF
    • Battery will show only 10.8 Volts after sitting just a few days
  • Popping from front end: Known issue, no fix available.
    • Q: Is it cab mounts or trackbar?
    • Service "Advisor": <crickets> I don't know.
    • Q: did they check the trackbar and suspension?
    • A: I don't know.
Apparently she doesn't take notes when the techs tell her something or make incomplete notes because every question is generally met with, "I don't know."

The ONLY thing they've done is oil/filter change (let's see if they used the right oil) and the bed step recall.

Now let's hope they don't mess up my dash doing the HVAC work.

I expected the HVAC parts to take time to order so I didn't pull out the NAViKS or BD 2WD-Lo. It will be interesting to see if they give me grief over those. I did pull the KAoDTECH knowing they would be flashing and (fail)doing the FOBIK.

I just had the dealer today program the two FOBIKs I bought from an online Ram dealer. The Ram service agent told me three times before I left that if the part was no good that I still had to pay the labor to try to program it. I am sure they probably have that in the service order fine print you signed even if the service agent didn’t tell you. I would say you are likely stuck paying the labor or part of it at least. I saw some previous posts about concerns with the Carandtruckremotes.com remotes so I spent the extra $20 bucks per remote as insurance. I figure that the remotes a Ram dealer provided were very likely going to work. You can try and dispute CC charges for the faulty remote from the website if they won’t refund you money on the remote. Sorry to hear the issue. That’s super frustrating :(

So just to sympathize with you a bit more Brutal_HO on your dealer woes. I just got back from the dealer configuring the new FOBIKs and adding the Remote Start sales code. They did that work correctly. Although, I can confirm that you need to do a short drive cycle to get the remote start to enable in the truck even if the dealer does the BCM programming. I also had the dealer install my new Titan 55 Gallon tank. They basically only transferred over couple gallons from my old and told me to go straight to the gas station to fill it up so I don't run out of diesel on the way home. Sure enough, I hit about 46 gallons and fuel starts coming from the top of the fuel tank likely where the fuel sending unit is. I am guessing the tech didn't seat the sending unit gasket properly. I went back to the dealer and the tech has now left for the day so nothing they can do to fix it today. Have to go back for round #2, now with a full tank of diesel. Going to be fun pulling down the tank with all that fuel which probably weighs about 320 pounds. I probably left 3 gallons of diesel on the ground at the gas station and another gallon or two on my way back to the dealer :(

If you haven’t given up already, have them initiate a rf hub replacement process, it seemed to work on mine. Others seem to work by driving a bit as I’m sure you read. Sorry about the troubles, dealers in general haven’t been great for me either. Btw, they started with the “won’t program “ line with me but luckily the tech was more stubborn than the service manager and kept trying.

Check fob for battery?

Sorry to mislead. I'm the last one that should be posting something only marginally related to the topic in a thread.

Not trying to add anything that wasn't already there (remote start). It's just one new Limited remote FOBIK. I just thought with some reporting issues getting them programmed i would report my dealers failure.

@Jimmy07 seems to think some of the FOBIKS are refurbs that haven't been properly reset.

If they are bought from non OEM sites, they most likely are refurbished.

Carandtruckremotes.com states that they are new but after my last order not showing up in a mopar bag I’m having my doubts. Also a couple of rub marks on it I’m not sure I can pass off as shipping.

LOL, well they are new to you.

What have people been quoted for their changes?

my local dealer quoted:
$80 - key program
$120 - add XBM
$120 - add JKR

Seems like a scam for charging two hours to add two codes?
