Remote start added to 2020 Tradesman (SOLVED)

M
Well, my tradesman must be a rare breed. There is no connector on the hood latch, sensor isn't there. I know it was a lease fleet truck so it's possible they build them to absolute bottom dollar for that market.
I'll be planning to acquire all the parts and install at some point before the next winter season.

My 2020 Tradesman didn't have the hood latch wire. I used the instructions in this thread about accessing the gray connector under the fuse box and taking the wire to ground with a resistor. FWIW, I didn't have a 1,000 ohm resistor in my garage, but did have an 820 ohm. It's been working properly, so you have some wiggle room.

I wonder what the difference is on some of these remotes sold outside of Mopar? I'm not implying they're not the same as the actual Mopar ones, but maybe they're getting them direct from who manufactures them for Mopar in order to be able to sell them at $99 plus another 10% off code? I can tell you, I work for a company that's been affiliated and direct with Mopar for 18 years. Our cost is $98 and $105 on those two remote part numbers (without a key blank!). It would be interesting to see the remotes from different sources side by side. As long as they work, guess that's the important part when upgrading our trucks.

Most of the time, the fobs sold from companies outside of mopar are selling refurbished ones.

got my remote delivered today. gonna see if i cab get it added this afternoon.

Brought my FOB to the dealer today to have it programed. I wasn't sure if they would need the truck or not. Apparently they did. He came back about 30 minutes later and said they were not able to get through the gateway. I didn't think about removing the Kaodtech bypass cable. He wasn't sure if it was my truck or their computer. He said they had a software update today. I have an appointment Friday to try again. I will be sure to remove the cable this time. I wonder if anyone else has had an experience of the dealer not able to access the gateway due to the bypass cable installed.

Correct. With the kaodtech bypass installed, if the dealer plugs their scan tool into the bypass harness OBD connector, there are no bus wires going to the gateway. Their scan tool must access the gateway to connect.

I thought that may be the case. Thank you again for amazing knowledge and assistance.

@Jimmy07 would that hold true for the AEV snap harness that just goes from OBD to the green star connector? Whenever they finally get the remote start/ door lock issue sorted out I will need to take mine in and wonder if the snap harness needs to be removed? Of course AEV says no but not sure if how reliable they are. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

That one would actually be fine to leave in. The procal has you use pins 1&9 (which Ram OBD protocol doesn’t use) to add the can c bus to the OBD port. Then, the actual procal tool internally switches pins with the correct termination resistance. This leaves everything in tact as far as the gateway.

Thank you. I don't think it is said enough, but you add so much to this forum..

I just went out to check mine. My 2020 3500 tradesman did not come with remote start from the factory, however it did have the plug at the hood latch already. I bought two brand new oem fobs with remote start and tailgate release.
Mine remote starts and unlocks with the fob every time without issue. A few minutes ago, I did the test posted earlier. I got in, closed the door and started with the push button. Lock/unlock works using the door buttons and also the fob buttons. Tailgate button on the fob also works.

Not to sound shocked but I’ve yet to experience FCA giving anything away with my 2020 3500 Tradesman . Did you check your build sheet and confirm the remote start wasn’t there ? I could be misreading your post. If so I’m going to hunt for that plug at the hood latch as well and start down this path of getting the remotes.

Yes, confirmed. Remote start is not even a factory option on a Tradesman.

Awesome thanks, that’s what I thought as well. Never saw it on my options. I did get the VSIM module and was looking at rolling my on with that but this path seems easier. Going to source my remotes, look to see if I want to get Alfa OBD, and book a service visit.

Only if you don't already have it.

I’m going to need to pop the plastic to be sure I think. I found the harness but I can’t easily tell if the sensor and latch are there.

So here is my shopping list so far:

- Bypass module (I need this according to AlphaOBD?) https://www.zautomotive.com/product/bypass-module/

- OBDLink MX+ https://www.obdlink.com/products/obdlink-mxp/?ref=alfaobd

- AlfaOBD https://alfaobd.com

- remotes with remote start

- probably need the tailgate damper if I hook that up

- ground pin 9 as in Jimmy’s instructions on the gray connector

- see the dealership to program the new remotes

Am I missing anything?

That is the wrong bypass for HD trucks,

You want the KAOdTECH cable.

Model BY19HD

You don't need the MX+ @$99 unless you want it to also work with Apple or have a GM or Ford. The less expensive $60 LX works.

MX+

You get to pick a license for either GM or Ford.
