Regens at alarming rate!

@mbarber84, I am using the correct filter that I got at the counter of Ram dealer. I see that you are tracking the dpf system failures, mine is a 22 that I ordered and received mid July.

Strange or not mine has done the same thing and I know it wasn’t a timed regen. DPF gauge on zero and within 10 miles gauge jumped up and went to Active regen.
Mine did it before as well. But I didn’t have the iDash at the time so I couldn’t monitor all the parameters like I can now. I had completed a 2 hour round trip highway run at 75mph and the DPF passively regenerated down to 0% from around the 37% mark or so by the time I got home. The next morning, the gauge jumped right back up to 37% within about 10 minutes of driving and was at 45% by the time I reached work five minutes later. It made absolutely no sense. But like I said, I wasn’t using the Archoil at the time either. The Archoil does seem to have “cleaned” up the combustion some as it doesn’t seem to load up on soot as quickly as it did before with straight fuel only

Just to confirm, it is indeed a Mopar 53034051AB? There are actually 3 different air filters that you can get from a Ram dealer for these trucks. Only the 53034051AB is acceptable. Some dealers were pushing the 68517554AA and that filter is not designed for our trucks. They can also sell you the “BproAuto” brand filter, which is Stellantis’ own brand of cheap Chy-Na aftermarket junk. They’re inferior and can definitely cause regen issues.

Edit: you can also use Fleetguard AF27684 as it is absolutely identical to Mopar 53034051AB

Jumping from 0 to soot based regen is one of the things I think is a programming error. If I see my % regen jumping fast I can usually counter it with more aggressive driving and increased exhaust flow. If I keep the rpms low the % jumps faster.

For me it happens 12+ hours after a 24 hour based regen, or very quickly after a soot based regen.

Definitely. I’m right there with you.
The programming has to be the basis for a lot of these odd issues. There are times when I’ve seen the DPF % REG climb absurdly fast, almost to the point it’s not believable.

Just got my last regen tonight. 910 miles and 25 hours on the EVIC but 24 on the ScanGauge. 22 miles for 18 minutes. I really really like being able to know almost to the minute when it’s going to start. I like being able to plan for it.
I’ve noticed mine builds soot faster early in the trip before the truck gets fully warmed up and then starts passively going back down.

This is the filter I took out and the new filter looks identical down to the part #.

Parts at a NC dealer pulled me behind the counter to watch their computer pull up the PN for the air filter for my VIN on their official Mopar parts site when I questioned what PN filter they were going to install. It was the wrong one so this issue was actually an incorrect PN loaded into Mopar's parts site that dealers use. He then pulled up a PN search based upon year/drivetrain and in small print a disclaimer that for my vehicle 53034051AB was indeed the correct filter and not to use 68517554AA which he had already pulled from the shelf. I'm not sure if that has ever been corrected.

My truck (2022) came with the 53034051ab filter in it when I purchased it 5/23. I changed the air filter on 9/25/23 @ 6278 miles and left home on a trip pulling our 7k TT on 9/29/23 and the truck went into regen getting on the interstate. It was @ 10 hours. I have had 4 early regens since then. 20, 21, 15 and 11 hours. The ones at 15 and 11 hours were immediately following putting the Archoil 6400D in the tank and reinstalling all of the AGS slats or vanes that I had previously removed. Every other regen has been time based 24 or 25 hours according to the EVIC.
When I changed the air filter, I installed the FleetGuard AF27684 because the Mopar 53034051ab was back ordered everywhere.
Before the air filter change, the truck was regening every 10-12 hours.
But just as importantly if not more so, I quit running 55 mph on 2 lane highways when I could just as easily run 75 mph interstate.

Mine will go from zero an start to climb on the DPF dash gauge between 12-14 hours after a 24 hr regen, to get a passive regen when i can I'll drive county roads with a few very mild hills, slow curves with speeds between 35-55 mph, around 20-25 mile drive, it seems mine likes slow county roads for passive regens

Update on my 19 6.7. New Dpf came in and was installed. So far at 110 miles and 25%/4grams of soot on the gauge. So far not much a of a change on performance. Going to run a full cycle and see if I can get close to the 24hr counter otherwise back to the dealer for round 6 of parts.

Hello Everyone, I hope all are safe and healthy. So I started this post years ago, and over that time my regens continued at an alarming rate. To the point my DPF was replaced by the dealer. Well as of today they have had my truck since December 17, 2024. I had gotten a check engine light as soon as a regen started during a run of about fifty miles. Dropped off the truck, they ran the code, high regen frequency. At this point regens were about once a week. They trouble shot, sensors good, dpf good, def good, et cetera. Until they checked the fuel system. My injectors had been weeping raw fuel in the cylinder on the exhaust stroke, sending it through the exhaust. At this point I am still waiting to get my truck back, they said they worked on it today.

Now for the dealer saga. @RamCares
Parts - I have been told there is no injector replacement kit for 22’s. All of the injectors had to be ordered individually. Which took a week and some change to get. The fuel tubes needed replacing, they are a “one time use” item. The parts depot sent the wrong ones (3.0 not 6.7) and did not ship the 6 of them at the same. Dealer said they needed to open a star report, have not heard back on that outcome. It is one thing after another. I want ALL of the associated paper work, mech reports, parts orders (wrong and right), star report, et cetera for this evolution. If the dealer will not give it to me, how do I get it?

Be safe,
Randy

Utterly astonishing.

909 days since you first posted this issue and you’re still without a reliable vehicle you paid good money for.

If these manufacturers and their dealer network were healthcare systems, they would be drowning in malpractice suits and on the verge of being belly-up.

when you say the injectors were weeping fuel, do you mean the truck was telling the injectors to do this incorrectly, or the injectors were not closing, allowing fuel to drip when not being actuated?

Hire a lawyer and have them subpoena the documents. All of them.

You should get the paperwork each time you leave the dealership with your repaired truck. Or just ask them for it. When I lemon lawed my Ford PSD truck, I already had all my paperwork. But we still hit the dealer up for a complete printout, which they gave us.

Curious why you have not lemon lawed this truck?

dude im so sorry. holy crap. i feel for you.

Just maybe, if Mr. Kuniskis is serious about restoring faith in the brand, maybe he should start with making sure his customers, at the very least the one's whose trucks are still under warranty or were under warranty when the problems started, are TAKEN CARE OF, no matter what that looks like. Its one thing to put out a poor product, all companies do that from time to time. But when that company refuses to support the customer who purchased that substandard product, and basically tells that customer "yeah we know its crap and that you're having problems with your $80,000 purchase that we built, but to hell with you cuz we're focused on the next poor sap we can sucker into an $80,000 purchase", thats a whole 'nuther level.
