Regen?

When a CTD goes through a regen, does a message show up on the dash that can be seen regardless of what menu/data is being displyed?

I was just backing into the garage and my truck sounded like it was working much harder than usual, and I could hear a bit of turbo. Also smelled slightly different, but the dpf display only showed about 45% full. No regen alerts that I could see. As soon as I put the truck in park, the engine dropped to its normal state/sound of idle.

Any ideas?

The 19-21 show the regen message only on the dpf screen but other reports have said the 22 shows regardless but i have not confirmed this or seen proof…

if your DPF is at 45% it may have been starting the process but no message?

Took her out for a spin and as soon as she fired and I cycled to the dpf display, I had the regn message.
Hit the highway at 75-80mph and it cleared in 18minutes.
So call it 50% blocked and 18min of highway driving to take it back down to zero. Sort of annoying, but I drive lots of city so I can deal.

This is a ‘22 and the regen message is only visible on the dpf display.

2022 is only on the DPF screen also. Mine has regen'd twice and I had to go to the DPF screen to see the message.

Has anyone noticed that while doing the regen , the truck seems more powerful. Better throttle response. It was strange.

Ok i was not sure as one member had said he got the message on the top of all the pages which seemed odd to me

Quite the opposite, actually. I can tell it regens because it feels different, a little sluggish, and the fuel economy drops about 4-5 mpg on average.

Mine felt more responsive, and as I previously noted I could hear the turbo spooling while backing into my garage. Didnt check the boost pressure though.

That was the EGR/back pressure valve working to generate heat in the system. It probably would be more responsive just off idle because of that. Getting up to speed from 20-40 or so, it definitely feels different in mine.

Someone posted here a few months ago a log they had taken when theirs regen'd. It retards the timing to send more unburnt fuel to the DOC to generate heat, as well as activating the EGR/back pressure valve.
Off idle, that would be beneficial as there would be more fuel available and the turbo would already be somewhat spooled. The retarded timing catches up to you pretty quickly though.

I have 2022 with the smaller 5” screen. I have to scroll to the DPF page to see if it is in regen mode But I can tell just by the trucks characteristics that it’s in regen. I’ve had my truck for a 1.5 months and have 1000 miles on it. It’s gone thru 2 regen‘s so far.

in addition to this, I think if you get over the 80% DPF mark then you will get a notification that a regen is in progress and to continue driving, regardless of what page you have displayed. I cannot confirm because I have not gotten my DPF that high (yet).

how to access this on 2017 3500 HO Ram dually ?

My truck will go into an active regen when the Edge CTS3 soot level reaches 100%. Yesterday it went into a regen, the DPF gauge said it was regening but prior to the regen the gauge was at zero. That gauge has never been above zero. It's nice to hear others have a gauge that reads something.

Interesting i monitor my truck off my phone data log vs the evic values and the soot level is always the same at 0. Do you use a factory PID on the CTS3 or do you have an aftermarket sensor for it?

It's a PID in the Edge. I monitor soot in both my Eco and my HO. What I look for is if it hits 100%, and I'm almost home, I'keep driving to get the Regen done. My Eco is a daily and important to complete a regen. I have both trucks Edge set up to alert at 95%

Are you saying that your DPF gauge will read zero, but your CTS3 tells you it is at 100%. Are they reading different things? I wonder because I have a Banks iDash and have this parameter displayed:
Emissions Exhaust System PM 1 % Particulate Matter Bank 1 %. (The first one on the list below).
That is always showing about zero just like the Gauge on the truck.
But there is another parameter that I am not sure what it is that I don't have displayed as it has "diagnostics in the description and I thought it was for something else:
Emissions Diagnostics PMF M Monitor - PM Filter
My truck regens every 24 hours or run time but never shows much if anything above zero on the truck's gauge or the Banks. Do you think I am monitoring the same parameter as you are with your CTS3?

Here is a shot of the emission PIDs that Banks has for my truck. See any others that might be relevant to this? Thanks!

Yes, my DPF gauge will read zero, but my CTS3 tells me it is at 100%.
The Edge is reading the EGT2 sensor located at the DOC Outlet (DPF Filter Inlet). I don't know what the EVIC Gauge reads or how it computes. All I know is my gauge has never gone above zero.

The Edge %soot level PID looks to be the same as "DPF Regen Trigger" on your chart. And regen on or off, the same as "DPF Regen Status". Mine also seems to regen every 23-25 hours, regardless of how it is driven or idled.
