Receiver hitch size?

I got this one to tow my boat with. It does have a little slop, but less than 1/4" movement from what I can see. Not bad for the price I paid. Thus far I'm pleased with it, and you can install only one ball if that's what you choose to do. You don't need both balls installed.
There you go !
I like the way those balls are locked in place with a pin from the back.
12k GTW

Almost switched my order but i think ill stick with the Trimax

I’m thinking about running a few weld beads on the receiver tube, then slowly grind down till it fits. Should lock up tight.

I picked up the same one from Fleet Farm for $115 or $120. Figured for that price I couldn't go wrong. This is the first adjustable hitch I have had. It seems pretty decent

I almost bought one until I saw the following picture.

No useful information was left by the reviewer. He claimed it is bent because it jack knifed with the trailer once it broke off.
Looks to me like he hit ground or something with it. Still... I don't think a steel version would have separated like that.

Mmm. Other than that guy, they get pretty good reviews.

I went to look at the Uriah mount to see if its made in North America. Nope - china.

The Trimax is made in USA. Im sticking with it.

Attached is a video on the Trimax Hitch similar to the broke one a couple of post earlier. This is the same problems I had with the Weight Safe Hitch and they wanted me to wrap tape around mine like in the video to fix it. Mine was ordered the correct size and did not need the adapter. Both makes are Aluminum which is a Soft Metal.

I am now going with a forged metal unit rated for 20k

Edited: I added the following video I found on YouTube that show the Problem/Looseness that I had with mine.

I finally made a choice and bought a B&W hitch. It has excellent reviews. All metal and need a single lock to locks everything. That a big plus compared to others adjustable hitch that need 2 or 3 locks to protect your investment.

I came across this dual function hitch lock pin. I just love the fact that even if you break the lock, you still can't just ran away with the hitch... Plus it take care of the hitch play. So it is a silencer too.

I bough it right after seeing the following video. Video is about the smaller version. But they have a 5/8" version for 2.5" hitches rated for 12K towing. Plenty enough for me.

Edit: Here is another review, but with the 5/8 version:

I was thinking the same but realized my shank was solid, it will only work with hollow shanks. I think a grade 8 bolt & nut would be equally as effective toward security, not so much the rattling, unless you use some shims.

I’ve used a B&W Tow and Stow with the 5” drop the last few years on my F250. It worked great for all three trailers I pull. But the new Ram 3500 is higher and I’ve had to order a B&W with 9” drop. One thing I will add- the B&W fit tight on the F250 but on the new Ram it didn’t. I found this “Let’s Go Aero” tightening and locking hitch pin. It is WONDERFUL! It tightens up like you welded it in. Highly recommend both B&W and the tightening pin from Lets Go Aero!! 4B9CE8FC-50F8-427E-B628-D7A2511E8D45.png

I agree. So much, that I posted the same like 3-4 posts above yours!

I got the Curt class 5 forged 8" drop. It is solid. I dont have a good way to measure tongue weight and wanted to be safe with no worries. I searched and found this thread

Exactly. There is better choices than buying an aluminum hitch. Even if you are certain of your trailer weight, you'll never know your tongue weight unless you use actually weigh it (and few people will ever do that). And even if you did know the tongue weight exactly, there is the issue of metal fatigue and quality of the aluminum, especially if made in China. Steel is always a safer bet as it will typically bend somewhat before breaking, which might give you time to catch it.

Good call. I just bought a Curt Class V too...receiver, dual ball, and pintle hitch, all rated at 20,000#. The receiver was cheapest on Amazon at $471, and arrived the next day, straight from Curt. Installed myself, and glad I did as I would have spent more time driving to the shop than installing it on my own. Quality is amazing. The metal is thicker than my truck frame. The dual ball hitch $305.96 and pintle hitch $145.67 was cheapest at Home Depot online. Arrived in a couple of days. Curt is the only bumper pull hitch rated for a 2700# tongue weight that I've found...it has 1/2" gussets reinforcing it to the 2.5" shank. The highest tongue weight with BW is 2100# because their hitches have no gussets (2100# only comes in a 3"). The hitch has a rubber silencer you can see in the 2nd photo.

I occasionally move my CTL with mulching head on my 21,000# capacity 3-axle trailer just a few miles down the road to another property. Although I stay under 20,000#, this receiver and hitch are cheap insurance. The hitch is designed to be reversed (long end up or down), which is handy with big commercial grade trailers which can sit higher. I've found I have no need for a gooseneck with this setup, as a 3-axle trailer tows really straight and is much more stable. Surprisingly, my truck still sits a little higher than level in the rear too, even with 10% TW.
