Recall VB6 - 2019 DJ D2 Diesel Engine Calibration

I just went on a long looping trip to Flagstaff AZ from Vegas empty, then went through Sedona AZ, then back roads back to I40, altogether about 600+ miles. This was climbing winding roads, city traffic, and the climb into Flagsatff AZ from Kingman AZ at 80 mph+. I didn't notice any difference in shifting, power, EB, with T/H and no T/H. I haven't calculated mpg, but I'm not that concerned, if I had to guess its the same. Unfortunatly I have to fillup all the time to eliminate getting to close to empty, protecting the CP4.2 pump. Topped off in Flagstaff and made it home with a half tank, but it's mostly down hill, so it got better milage. Now this is without towing, that'll have to wait awhile. :)

What exactly do they do for the recall? I ask because I just got my truck back from the dealer, (Carl Burger Dodge in San Diego) I don't recommend them at all, and they had cut a large chunk of the wheel well liner on the drivers front side. They deny they cut it, but it wasn't like that when I dropped it off and I sure didn't do it. Would they need to get into that area to access the transmission or a plug or something? Thanks, Stewy.

Here are a couple of pictures of mine, mine hasn't been in to the dealer for anything except for an Oil and Filter change since I took delivery back on 4-17-20 and it looks like yours.

New guy here, came across this place after searching for info on the issues with my 19’ 3500 HO dually with the Aisin. The VB6 flash was done a few weeks ago at around 8k miles. Drove it for a couple weeks then loaded two jeeps up and drove from Kansas City to Utah. I’m at about 28k all together so it’s a good load. Second time making this trip with this truck and load. No issues on the first trip but this time after the flash when pulling long grades and or mountain passes it feels like the converter is unlocking and locking periodically. It is almost an instant unlock and lock resulting in an unexpected violent jolt. Only happened under load pulling a hill or slight grade. Can’t replicate it without a trailer. In a 30 hour round trip I’d say it happened over 20 times. Something pressure related I’d say is telling it to unlock if that is indeed what it’s doing but either way it’s violent and didn’t happen before the VB6 flash. Mpg is down as well but that’s give or take because of the load. Taking it to dealer this week so they can make sure the program loaded correctly. That’s my 2 cents. In my opinion I’d hold off on the flash I’m not too happy.
I just returned from a trip from Texas through Colorado and Utah to Oregon, and back. WTF!!! never had a truck perform that bad in my life! starting out was ok, until i reached about 45-60mph, then power dropped off significantly, down to 35mph. Then give it a little throttle to respond, and nothing, give it a little more and WTH... straight to 75 like a rocket. Not safe. Good thing I wasn't hauling a load, or a trailer! Im sure everyone on the road thought I was drunk. This happened over two dozen passes on the trip. The worst one was in colorado.

Was the truck in regen? My 07 C&C, when in regen, did that, that was flashed in 09 with the latest and greatest at that time. Very simular to your description of what you experianced, no one else complained. I was told by the dealership that it is the updated flash and couldn't change it now, now that it was flashed. I made a big mistake by swallowing that load of crap. After warranty was up and several reflashing with the updates as they were available and litle to no change, it was "gee there are no more flashes for that year and version of the 6.7". I was ignored and I wanted to do some data logging with their computor and was told no, no & hell no. I was told that they would take the truck in and do testing of their own, oh by the way, paying for every hour of it.

Just imagine if you had a manual transmission, like my 07 C&C, and you experianced the same phenomena. The truck engine would race to 3100 rpm for a split second, if I chose not to ride out the rocket. It took my clutch and I had to go to a dual disk clutch to hold the power. It is the main reason for my 2019 3500 SRW purchase, to get the Aisin and get rid of the dreaded surging during regen. If this new flash has any issues that you described, it will be back to the dealer and I wont give a crap what they say, they will keep getting back until fixed, also I will involve an attorney to get the point across. I WILL NOT PUT UP WITH WHAT YOU DESCRIBE, IF MINE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM.

Absolutely!!! Buddy stay in touch. Along with other smaller issues I'm dealing with, I am focussing on the unsafe surging issues. Just make sure you document all conversations, dates and symptoms. I am not going to settle on this. After 30 years of dealing with GM, and switching to RAM for several reasons... I was sold on the truck and capabilities so, NO WAY!!!... This is getting resolved! I am not getting down the road 3-5 years and footing the 10,000 bill for a mistake leading up to this crap.... F..k them

Sorry you guys are having these issues. FWIW, my 2020 HO/Aisin does none of that. No driveability issues during active regen, no surging, odd shifts, etc.

I just did my first tow with my 10K trailer after the VB6 and tranny update. Mileage looks to be almost 1 mpg better (subjective), and shifting is better, it doesn't "slam" into a higher gear at the bottom of a hill like last time, although it is still pretty rough compared to the Allison in my last truck.

Mine is a 19 3500 HO. After the ecm flash. Horrible surging. Took it back and the did the tcm flash which improves the shifting by smoothing it out which it did. It did nothing for the surging issues. No fix yet.
Just an update. I have decided to move forward seeking replacement of my truck. I am working with FCA for a reasonable settlement as there is no quick fix for vb6 issue and it is useless to me in it's present state. I am not sure I want to stay with RAM at this point.

What steps did you take to get that ball rolling? I have so many issues with this truck, and the dealer that I have been going to that I hate to back.

I started with my dealer and verified that there was an issue that they could not resolve and they opened a case and was assigned an number. I then called Ram customer care and was assigned an agent to assist me. They are well aware that this is an issue but won’t be resolved for some time. They have been easy to work with thus far. We will see how this week goes.

Thanks, that helps. Keep us updated.

Well here we go again!!! Just opened the VB06 recall notice from fca for my 2019 2500 6.7. Spoke with fca recall department on the phone and they said”pcm modification to improve emissions” I said improve because it’s not good enough currently and she said”yes”. I am here to tell you people that I already went through this with the eco diesel scandal they had and that pcm flash completely detuned/ruined that truck!!! Maybe one of these ever so helpful ram cares people will get in touch with me!!! Right now I feel like this is the worst decision I ever made to give them a second chance!!!!

Had I known I would of refused. Now I’m stuck. Just finished a 500 mi trip pulling 15k. Average MPG was 8.9 down from 11.4 pre flash. Still surges terribly on any uphill load or excelleration.

My 2020 3500 HO Aisin is doing the exact same thing when towing 26k on steep 7-10% grades at 6-8k feet elevation. There is definitely a harsh jolt from transmission especially around 1750 rpms between 2-3 gears. But I’ve notice it once in a while at lower rpms and between other gears.
Also mine surges and you can see boost gauge bouncing a few psi. It’s especially noticeable with no load and at higher elevations.
Any updates from FCA? Thanks

Depending on the fuel rail pressure id bet it’s not a great thing for the CP4 hmmm
