Rear view camera while driving ?

I am in the "planning to buy" stage of a 3500 SRW megacab learning mode. ( 2025 or 2026 , as available )

Last weekend I rented a 2023 promaster cargo van with the interior barrier and there were so many dangerous blind spots that I really wish I could have driven with the rear back up camera just on all of the time. I was not able to figure out how to do this.

I have a gps on my phone, and spotify for music via a portable speaker, so I don't need those features in a vehicle, and frankly the audio in the van was so poor I could not stand to have it on at all.

The one and only feature that I would want a large screen for is if the back up camera can work while driving at interstate highway speeds.

So the question I have is - Can the rear camera stay on and operate while driving continuously or not ? Not 30 seconds, really on all of the time.

I don't care which screen size.

Thanks

Harry

Pretty sure the answer is no for MY25/26, the tailgate backup camera on the uConnect screen will not stay on constantly while driving (never has shuts off after timeout or speed I believe). I've had mixed results keeping it on going under 5mph while towing our little grey tank tote (keep an eye so it doesn't bounce off the hitch) to a dump station when were out dry camping but even at that slow speeds it shuts off randomly on me. If you option the digital mirror that sucker gives you a great view without the cab obstructions and even covers the rear blind spot, by far one of my favorite features in my '22 that I made sure to keep in my '25.

Thanks - guess I need to go sit in a dealer vehicle and see what I can see.

If that big display can't put up all of the camera information so I can easily rotate through them as desired, and I don't need a radio or GPS, not sure why it is even there.

Seems like something that could be just removed to save money.

Wolfbox dash cam…digital rear view mirror setups. I have a g850 pro, but the g900 is newer.

I have a 23 Tradesman with the towing electronics package (tailgate camera, upper cab light camera, mirror and grill cameras), I can go through the vehicle tab on the display and select any of the cameras to watch while driving. I use the tailgate camera a lot to check traffic behind me. Mine works at any speed and it stays on a couple minutes I know.. I can double check later today see how long it will stay on.

Cameras that show on the Radio UConnect display are for backup. The rear view, truck surround view, or trailer backup or trailer surround camera options will only display below 8MPH and will timeout after 8 seconds at speeds above.

The DRVM Digital tow mode camera setup is intended for constant view.

These are 2 separate systems.

For the Radio display cameras, Naviks makes a black box to override the timeout and allow in motion NAV searching. I don't know that they make anything yet for the 25+.

Thanks for those details. Do you happen to know if that is due to poorly thought out government regulations or poorly thought out design ?

I actually was able to keep the rear backup camera on, on my 2021 Ram 2500 with the upgraded 12.1” screen. Google “got my backup camera to stay on”

My HDRams.com post should be first. Hope this helps, maybe you can test this method out on the Promaster and report back, for others to see.

Thanks - I rented the promaster van, but will ask a buddy with one to test it on his.
