Just vetting......I have a 2019 Gen 5 Ram 2500 and I am not a fan of rear coil springs. I have given them a good chance but still like the leafs. Had a 1986 2500, a 1994 2500, and a 2004 2500 Cummins and i could not notice any ride difference as they claim. Coils are good for the 1500 air hauler guys but not the heavy duties. Coils cannot dampen as fast as leafs and you get tremendous wheel hop when you drive over rough roads or bumps with any speed and at times almost loose control especially if your going around curve. I loaded all my previous rams to the limit and the leafs didn't sage no where like the coils do. it's sad that you need the option of air suspension when hauling a goose-neck. Coil spring design calculation results on paper are different in real life due to many different variables. My truck bed leans to the left and it really is upsetting. Ram didn't want to do anything about it said nothing was wrong. I seen others lean both left and right. Ram did this not use coils to improve the ride but to cut costs. Thanks for your ear.

I won't disagree, and do not think that you are crazy as I experience the same. But that said, and I know that aftermarket parts should not be an essential part of your new truck....A Thuren rear trackbar can do wonders for that squirrely feeling on bumps/curves. Nothing for the wheelhop/bounce due to the stock damping. There again aftermarket shocks can really help there too.

Again, you are not wrong and I am chasing that damping issue right now. But that rear trackbar definitely showed a handling improvement, just not a vibration improvement.

You dont have a 5th gen as they are not made yet…
Coils cost more to use vs leafs due to the added brackets and control arms…
shocks dampen not springs i have no issue with my truck on logging roads and washboard
My 2019 on coils can take 3500lbs in the bed and still not squat but sit level the same as my 2005 2500 did with superspring helpers

The coil sprung 2500s are perfectly capable and work wonderful running them up to max axle cap if you wanted more you should have bought more….

Thanks for your reply. I'm a old farmer and retiring next month. Won't have the money to do after market and shouldn't have too when your spending $60K plus

Yep. I hear you. I run 600ac with my father, but we just this year leased it out and I am concentrating on my other W-2 job.

@H3LZSN1P3R is referring to the 2500/3500 generations. 2019-2022/2023 are actually more of a 4.5gen since the cabs have not really changed and are not the same as the true Gen 5 1500's.
the 2019 you have is somewhat of a facelift of a 2018 with a few updates. Not really a generational change like the 1500's went through.

Nope same thing there is no 5th gen HD truck yet we have 4.5 gens…

I still find it funny that we call the current HDs “4.5”. The only thing that carried over from the 4th gen is the cab sheet metal from A pillar to C pillar, and the Hemi (but not the transmission attached to it). The frame, bed, and entire front clip are new, as is the interior. I think you’d be more accurate calling it a “4.9” gen. What if the cab changes but it’s not the same cab that’s on the 1500s? Will we skip 5 and call it a 6th gen?

If you want to start getting technical with things these are still 4th gens according to RAM’s letter designation

True, it is still "DJ/D2".

What does the Thuren rear trackbar do that the factory one doesn’t do that mitigates that squirrely feeling on bumps/curves?

Huh. My coil sprung 2022 goes over RR tracks placed in the middle of a curve way nicer than my 2006 lead sprung truck did. Rear ended doesn’t slip sideways any more. Is it solely due to coils? Doubt it. I’d bet 16 year newer squishy bits in the suspension help, too.

He is lifted so thats the only reason it helps him…

Actually I’m not. The rear has the 1” springs but the weight of the Rambox puts the soft springs back to stock height.

The Thuren rear bar is almost flat when installed and allow more rear travel without abnormally kicking the rear end to the right when the weight is removed…like when you go over a bump.

The rear will droop more straight down than in an arc to the left.

I bought my 2500 exactly because of the rear coils. I've been a jeep guy for a while and thought that this truck suspension would really make this a big jeep. I don't have any real issue daily driving it, but towing it shows it's issues. I personally don't think that coils are the best choice for a HD truck that tends to tow often. The coils, with all their bars and suspension brackets, just have too many different overlapping and fighting planes of movement vs the simplicity of the leaf.

That said, I am not towing often enough that I really can justify the swap to the leafs, and with the fact that the '22 trucks have gone up by over 10k when comparing msrp, I think you'd be lucky if you were able to "trade up" on a new truck for less than 20k for the same or less equipment.

OP, it sounds like you're getting toward the day where you won't need the capabilities anymore, so the 2500 should get you through. Maybe no the most comfortable or confidence inspiring, but it will get you though.
