Rattle Noise In Cab

Crazy to think that a Denali HD is not as nice as a Ram lol. This is the new norm. But I completely understand what you did and why you did it. The CP4 debacle is going to have the same effect. @RamCares ...this is going to be bad for you guys.

Don't get me wrong, it is a nice truck but has a different feel. There are things like the screen size in the dash, all of the plastic exterior trim and a Duramax under the hood that are a little off putting but these are minor tradeoffs to be rid of the rattle that RAM has incorporated into their 5th Gen 2500 trucks. The rattle wasn't the only problem with the truck, there were many but the rattle is the only one that went unresolved. They call themselves @RamCares but the irony is they really don't care and typically worsen the relationship between the customer and the dealer so save yourself the agony.

I had a rattle in my door that I mentioned to the dealer when I went in for a software flash. Instead of looking into it they just blamed it on my Carli lift kit. You know...the kit that makes these trucks ride softer. I literally shook the door right it front of them and it was rattling. I pointed out that they were lazy and that they'll never see me again. Turns out it was a washer on a bolt holding the inner door panel in place. Tightened it and no more rattle. Took 15 minutes. Dealers suck at everything.

I feel your pain, I've owned several Rams over the years.
My 2020 also had ongoing problems, cracked front brake rotor, poor rear side window fitment, rattling cab mounts and a center console rattle that couldn't be resolved driving me nuts. I named it the covid truck!!
I finally had enough and was ready to give up on Ram but ended up trading it in on a 3500 HO that just happened to be coming in. The dealer took care of me with my trade. Although it doesn't have some of the cool electronics the other had so far I've had no issues and no rattles. I'm glad I got rid of the 2020. I still like Ram trucks and especially the Cummins engine.

I hope Ram steps up and helps out everyone with all these problems that plagued the 2019's and 2020's

My 2019 has had the noise since I bought it in Sept of ‘19. Over 35,000 miles of enduring it. Finally went and had the TSB performed yesterday. It’s as bad, if not worse now. Open the rear window and hit repetitive bumps and sounds like I’m carrying loose bolts in the bed. Turned right into a fairly steep driveway, huge pop/clunk as if the cab lifted on the right rear corner and then dropped down. Aggravating and embarrassing knowing that anyone within earshot can hear that metallic clatter as you pass by, like you’re driving an old bucket of bolts.

sound, and i would hate to make it worse. Mine only makes some noise over certain washboard type bumps.

What baffles me is that cab mounts have been around since the beginning of the car and they can't get it right? My other Rams didn't have this problem. How did they jack them up this time? I don't get it.

Because soccer moms want to drive a 1 ton and expect a smooth ride. So mounts are engineered to reduce vibrations from the frame into the cab. Someone in the aftermarket needs to make a non soccer mom solid ass bushing that won’t have the ability to rattle.

I had a 2018 2500 and the mounts were just fine.

My buddy's 2019 2500 had gotten really noisy. The dealer did the cab mounts, which took away a layer of noise, but the heavy rattle that sounded like it was at the back of the cab was still there. They ended up finding undertorqued bolts in the rear suspension. Not sure if track bar, or link arms, but the truck is quiet as a mouse now.

My rear sway bar was completely loose with the bolt hanging on by a thread. This after a month of ownership roughly. Now the front is making a similar sound so I’ll have to go investigating.

I had 8000 miles on my 2019 2500 6.4 4x4 when I purchased it, the truck rattled & clunked when I went over washboard sections from day one . I recently saw the Ram 2500 YouTube video showing the rear cab mount rattling when hitting washboards I noticed the cab mount bolt seemed too long allowing the mount too jump around causing the rattling. I came up with a home grown fix by removing both rear cab mount bolts and the big black washer also and placing some heavy rubber matting between the cab mount and the big black washer on both rear cab mounts and retorquing bolts back to 85 ft pounds. By doing this I took away the gap between the washer and the mount not allowing the mount to jump up and down over rough surfaces
, no more clunking now if I could only figure out how to stop the Squealing noise on cold starts I would be a happy camper!

I have had this issue since I purchased my Truck new. 2020 RAM 2500 Mega Cab 6.7L. I took it in to dealer with 2K miles, before the TSB came out about the cab mounts. This first visit, I was told "all the new models sound like that" not a month after the first service visit the TSB comes out for cab mounts. Three different dealerships have replaced the cab mounts and body isolators 3 separate times. The first time they broke the tabs on the nuts that support the mounts and the truck had to be taken to a body shop for repair. FCA hasn't been much help at all. None of these fixes worked. Every time I would take the truck in, I would get the "We couldn't reproduce the noise" BS. each time I made sure to take the tech for a ride and produce the noise and each time the tech would say "Wow that's horrible". The tech could see the origination of the noise with their pico scope or electronic ears and verified by driving that the noise is still present. I was told by FCA yesterday that there was nothing else they could do and that I needed to take it up with the dealer. I have fought this for a solid year and a half, at this point I think FCA's only job is to provide stall tactics until my warranty expires. I saved my hard earned money for years to purchase this truck, which I love except for the incessant rattle. I paid full price, I should get a new trouble free vehicle. In total my truck has been in the service shops for over a month and a half, and still no resolve. I have had enough frustration and will be looking into pursuing the lemon law.

Might be hard to see but the rubber matting is sandwiched between the Big black factory washer and the mount I did a quick trimming of the rubber to match the diameter of the washer also added a large washer on top of the factory black washer i think without the added washer the factory black washer might try to start bending around the head of the bolt because of the flex of the added rubber matting, I also posted a picture of the matting I used it's 1/8'' thick just some stuff I had lying around. I torqued the bolts back to 85 ft pounds took it for a ride and was surprised this easy fix worked. its been a couple of weeks now and still as quiet as a mouse just thought I would share my fix.

I read somewhere that power tools should not be used when loosing or tightening the cab mount bolts, I think that there is a possibility that power tools might break the nut loose that the bolt goes into on the cab floor there either welded or use some sort of tabs to keep them from spinning. I used a 1/2'' Ratchet and socket to loosen and install the cab bolt. Takes a little effort to loosen and install the rear cab bolts by hand but probably the safer way to go.

Just thought I would add that I did the fix to the two rear cab mounts only I did not mess with the other cab mounts. I have not experienced any negative effects on the fix.

Interesting fix, I have some old conveyor belt around I’ll try this as well. Approx. diameter of the added washer you added on top of the factory black one?

The diameter washer I used is 4 1/2''' inches i picked up at my local hardware store, the only catch is you want the center of the washer to be just big enough for the bolt to go through and keep it centered otherwise if the center of the washer is too large it might try to move around as time goes on.

If you can't find a 4 1/2'' inch washer with a small center opening than I think placing a smaller washer inside the larger washer will work also.

Hi Ramcares,

I have had my truck in for this noise and got the typical "cannot verify concern" reply. I provided the dealer with the TSB for popping at the A pillar and they wanted to charge me for the repair. Any idea what to do next?
