Rattle Noise In Cab

Has your dealer completed the work on your truck?
When I drove by Saturday my truck was exactly where I left it when I dropped it off Thursday... So judging by that, maybe they'll start on it tomorrow and I'll have it back by 2021 some time?

Apparently it isn't high on their list of priorities, I hope they atleast put you in a loaner if they are gonna let it sit and collect dust. I will be visiting the dealer in the morning, I was doing a bit of detailing under the truck this afternoon and found that not only did the tech that did the work didn't replace the A pillar bolts but put the wrong ones altogether. They are way too long and don't even make contact with the cab mount, good thing I haven't gone over and tall speed bumps or the may have rubbed.

Just picked my truck up, the initial ride home was WAY better than when I dropped it off. I'm not 100% sure it's totally gone, while i was driving through a bumpy parking lot i thought i might have heard something back there, but I'll have to drive it more and see how it goes.

I was hopeful that mine was gone after the ride home from the dealer even though they said it was still there but it didn't make a sound the 30 mile ride home. Then a couple days later on a crappy road I heard it but like you say is way better than before. After I found the issue with the A pillar bolts I was hoping once that was corrected it may have got rid of the rest of the rattling. I visited the dealer yesterday morning and they put it up on a lift to take a look at it, they were very receptive and allowed me to be involved.

The tech pulled the bolts out and when compared to the new bolts that should have been installed they were the same length. It wasn't that they installed the longer bolt, they just never got tightened. They replaced the two bolts and verified that the others were properly torqued. The service advisor drove and I rode shotgun, there is a section of street about 1/2 mile from the shop that they have found makes them rattle and it did. I have taken measurements to verify the cab is located properly and double checked everything so unfortunately the engineers have some work to do.

Just got mine back tonight. Parts came in last week and scheduled the repair today. Cab feels tighter (less sloppy overall if that makes sense ) Noise is 10% better but still there on bumpy roads IE 1/2 mile dirt road to my house. Hope they come out with another revised service bulletin. This did not fix the issue.

Sounds like my problem. Too.

Mine will be spend next week at the dealer at the request of Ram customer care for them to open a Star case to work towards a fix for the fix. I don't think much will come of it but atleast my dealer is willing to entertain them, if it helps make progress towards a solution I am all for it as well.

Did any of you checked the front tow hooks? Mine were loose and I make them fit tight when I installed hidden winch

This thread is about a noise coming from the rear of the cab.

Kristof, I appreciate the info. There's no reason a sound can't transfer and at this point with these issues, anything offered is up for consideration.

Good point. The truck is currently at the dealer ( almost 4 weeks now) for a new clunking noise coming from what sounds like the front. I'll have them check the hooks because they can't find the source. You can hear it from out side the truck, but can't identify where it's coming from. Thanks for the info.

Mines were making the noise when I was driving over a bump or pothole. At first I thought I mounted the winch loose and it's making that noise. Then when I was getting under my truck I grabbed the tow hook and realized it was sitting loose. So I retighten two bolts on the frame and it went away.

I stopped by the dealership today to get an update. They said they couldn't find anything but then I told them about the hooks and the rear track bar and radiator support bolts that someone on here posted about. They said they would take a look. Their diesel tech was on vacation so that's why it's taking so long. I don't get it because it's the same setup a a gas truck! They couldn't have one of those techs look at it? Only one diesel tech? I'm very mechanically inclined and can rebuild the truck from top to bottom (I've been turning wrenches for 30+ years) but I don't want to do it anymore. Plus, I shouldn't have to on a 60k truck. I'll update as I get more info. Thanks for the info

I have been hearing a similar noise as you have described come from the right front when I drive over this one particular dip in the road near my house. I have also been experiencing a click and clunk through the steering wheel while turning at slow speeds especially when parking.

I finally pulled in the driveway about two weeks ago and had my wife available to turn the wheel left and right while it was doing it and found that the end of the drag link was moving in and out of the tube where it is swedged. I did a little digging and found a Star publication addressing this issue.

My truck spent the week at the dealer for them to open a Star case for the presence of the cab rattle after performing the TSB so I had them fix this as while it was there. I picked it up late last night and didn't feel the clicking and clunking through the steering wheel pulling into the driveway but haven't driven through the dip yet. I am hoping that is gone as well, it is worth having your dealer look at it regardless.

Thanks for the info. I'll mention it to them again when I go there to get updated on progress. I thought only the 3500's were effected by the drag link issues? I'm not sure if the 2500 and 3500 share the same part number?

I had the drag link with the jam nut issue on my '15 2500, this a whole new issue with the redesigned drag links, not sure if the 3500 uses the same drag link. I will take my truck out and run over that dip here in a little while to see if the clunk is still there and report back.

I had an 18 and they welded the jam nuts together. Awesome
