RANT ALERT! What is FCA thinking? No improvements for 2022?!

Let me first say I am a Mopar kid with a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 Short Mega Cummins so I was hoping to buy a 2022 but now I am reconsidering. Secondly, what the blank is FCA doing to improve the truck for 2022?!!! Automatic step rails? REALLY?! How about an announcement of an upcoming trans upgrade from Allison? Plus make the 6.7L HO available in the 2500 with the new trans. Or raise up the rear view mirror to improve driver’s view with the forward collision detection option. I understand COVID-19 was a factor last year but ANY real improvement would be welcome since not much has changed. I think Ram is coasting in past years accomplishments (like best interior since 2019) and I don’t like the lack of innovation. This is only my opinion but I am interested if others share the same observations and opinions. BTW I am not considering a ford or gmc but I am considering waiting until 2023 models.

The wife and I are in the market for our first hd truck. I was disappointed as well that there is nothing new for 2022 since I’ll most likely have to order what I want if I go with a Ram

My HVAC system seems to work just fine.
Ive been seeing a lot of people and threads of people having issues with the AC in both the 1500s and 2500s. Including in my 1500. If its over 70 degrees it stays on max for at least an hour before it calms down. imho, for what we pay for these things I think its nuts.

The power steps have been around and are not new for 2022 unless you saw something different. Standard on Limited.

Rumor is Allison is out and it will be ZF when it comes. Allison is concentrating on commercial only now (cheby builds their "Allison" branded trans).

The rearview mirror issue will go away when HD gets the 5th gen cab, not before. Hopefully 2023, possibly even a midyear 2022 intro.

There's a new 360° Trailer Camera option and 2022 should get UConnect5.

ETA: Not looking good for UC5 in the HD upon launch. Story on sister site 5thgenrams but nothing here yet.

Thanks for the info. I think I will wait until the 5th gen cab comes out. What are the thoughts on a ZF trans making the HO available in the 2500?

best wait until 2035 probably be something new and improved by then.....I did hear there were going to be some cool new colors coming out within the next 5 years so there is that...

I should say my only real disappointment is that they aren’t using the 5th gen cab yet

No idea.

I guess it depends on the weight of the components. Part of the issue with stuffing the HO/Aisin in the 2500 is the added weight of the trans and bigger xfr case, even though it's only around 200lbs total, further diminishing the already pitiful payload. Some of the 2500 trims are under 2,000 payload. The HO also uses a 12" ring gear rear end with 4" axle tubes so any extra weight there comes off the payload to keep the 2500 under 10K GVWR.

The chances of them using a single trans is great, the HO offering maybe not so much. That HO tow capacity, perhaps regardless of the extra payload, also sells a lot of 3500's IMHO.

What’s wrong with rear view mirror and fcw equipped 3500’s? I test drove one and wasn’t an issue. Yes it was equipped!

This is another gripe of mine. Im going to need a new vehicle next year (in a current lease) and there's no word when they will actually make a fully 5th Gen HD.

The FCW housing is larger than the 5th gen and some consider it obstructs their view - mostly the guys over 5'11" with the seat all the way up.

3500’s aren’t on the 5th gen cab? That I didn’t know. Fiat mess or oversight/laziness?

Confirmed with family member with dealership. No changes to the Cab on HDs for MY22. Just damn! Guess I’m not getting a Ram HD...yet.

No. These are "4.5" gen trucks. New frame and running gear, sheet metal, interior, but same old cab since 2010.

HD always follows 1500 in that department.

Personally, I think they need a whole new design to stuff a larger cab on the existing wheelbase offerings. Another 12" of truck isn't going to fly, they already turn like a battleship.

What if the 5th Gen doesn’t look as good as gen 4.5... If the 5th gen HDs look like the new 1500s I’m not interested. Not my cup of tea.

And with no new changes for MY22 I’m just not able to justify spending that kind of money on a truck with a rear view mirror hanging to low. Forward collision warning system or not. FCA needs to fix this, just seems cheap and 1/2 a$$ed to me. Just wow!
